Video: Moyes left in disgrace after red card shame

By Dave Langton

David Moyes has performed miracles at times this season but tonight, the pressure got to him, and the Hammers boss disgraced himself.

In a Europa League semi-final second leg, tension is always going to be palpable; the atmosphere is always going to be so thick you could cut it with a knife.

Even more so when your team are 1-0 down on the night, with 10 men, and need two goals to even force extra time.

But there is absolutely no excuse for the sort of behaviour exhibited by Moyes on the touchline in the final 15 minutes of the game.

The ball boy on the touchline was slow to return the ball to the pitch, and the Scot was visibly exasperated by the delay, perhaps feeling that time wasting was going on.

The ball then appeared to be thrown towards Moyes, and he volleyed it straight back. The referee, for the second time, brandished a red card.

BT Sport have posted the video on their social channel and you can watch it here.

It’s disgraceful from the manager, and we were pleased to hear him apologise.

The pressure was on this evening, and clearly Moyes has let it get to him. The Hammers have crashed out and Moyes, with this outburst, has let himself down.
