VIDEO: West Ham Man v German Food

No player in the world genuinely looks forward to, never mind enjoys, pre-season.

And any of them say anything different they are lying – after a long summer break the prospect of sweating your conkers off under the eye, notably of a new head of medics, Gary Lewin is not exactly the sort of thing dreams are made.

However, the Hammers trio of Joe Hart, Adrian and Angelo Ogbonna were given a break from the strict training regime in German ahead of the Betway Cup which saw the Hammers beaten 3-2 by Werder Bremen.

And they may argue that tasting some local German delicacies in a taste test shown in this amusing video may not have helped. After all cold fish in vinegar really doesn’t sound the best does it?

Stevo the Mad Man was on hand ahead of the two legged Betway Cup game to serve up a very special pre-match diet for three members of the team: Joe Hart, Adrian and Angelo Ogbonna.

The social media king and Hammers supporter was more than happy to oblige and for our money it was Joe Hart that drew the short straw with grub that may have left a more bitter taste in his mouth than the goal he conceded in the first leg.

It was all a far cry from pasta, chicken and rice traditionally associated with a footballer’s diet with Adrian actually coming out of things quite well. In fact, poor old Joe might feel more than happy to return to such grub after being forced to stomach what might best be described as an acquired taste.

In this amusing video from Betway, the lads show themselves to be a decent bunch by at least giving it a try.

But we aren’t sure they will be rushing to the wives with recipes of the food they attempted to stomach and which included dishes such as:

  • Knipp (pork meat mashed up with groats)
  • Rollmops (cold fish sat in vinegar)
  • Rindsrouladen (beef)
  • Zitronen-Baiser (lemon cake)with recipes

Thankfully there was no long lasting effects and the boys continue their tour of Germany in Hamburg where they meet Altonia 93 tonight before heading off to Iceland for the high profile finale to the build up campaign – a game against Manchester City.

It was great though to see Joe and Adrian enjoying the ‘crac’ together, given all the publicity there has been over the possibility of the Spaniard leaving and he once again showed himself to be in outstanding form when the two matches against Werder Bremen got underway.
