Aston Villa are rumoured to be in talks to sign former West Ham midfielder Morgan Amalfitano.
The Frenchman is currently a free agent after leaving the Irons via mutual consent back in October. The 30-year-old has been on the hunt for a new club and Ligue 1 side Lille are said to have offered him a deal but Villa are also said to be interested.
Amalfitano is believed to have picked up a cool £2.5 million after being dumped by West Ham. He appeared in a Claret and Blue shirt 32 times and scored three goals before managing to upset Slaven Bilic soon after the manager’s arrival.
ClaretandHugh understands the cost of buying Amalfitano out of the last 21 months of his contract could be as high as £2.5 million, based on 75% of his remaining wages at £40,000 per week.
Last week Villa were linked with another former Hammer in Julien Faubert. Faubert signed for the Hammers for £6.1m in 2007 on a five year contract amid big expectations, but could score only two league goals during 103 appearances. He was famously loaned to Real Madrid for a loan fee thought to £1.5m plus wages, where he was snapped sleeping on the subs bench. His loan spell finished with only two appearances. He is now a free agent after being released by Bordeaux in the summer.
Just what Villa a want another French waste of space, they will probably have to fight Hippo to get him,
