Vladimir Coufal, West Ham United’s right-back, has been talking about the club’s new playing style under manager Julen Lopetegui.
In an interview with the offical site he conceded that the players are finding it tough adjusting to Lopetegui’s “completely different style”.
But he hopes things will start to come together sooner rather than later.
‘We have the international break to work on it’
“They (Man City) had a lot of chances in the first half, and it didn’t work out quite well to be honest, but we changed something for the second half, and I think it was much better as we had a lot more possession, created some chances, and also hit the post…” Coufal told West Ham’s website.
“We went to a back five and tried to get a bit higher up the pitch and put some pressure on them. I think it was working quite well until we conceded the third goal, and that won them the game.
“It’s totally different when you’ve been playing a different style under another manager for the last five years.
“It’s quite the opposite now as we are trying to keep ball and press, but we didn’t catch all the mistakes so far, so we have the international break to work on it.
“We have to take the positives from the games we’ve played so far in the Premier League, and we will be alright.”
Considering that he is probably not going to be the first choice right back any more, you have to admire his team spirit.
Good on Loppy, if it takes all season to break old habits and create new, go for it.
As long as that doesn’t include relegation.
I was pretty vocal against the conservative football of Moyse, if Vlad says it’s changing and it’s tough to change, must mean I got what I wished for.
Can’t look back at the Moyse period without seeing anything but success.
But I opined it had concluded, progress had halted.
Everything seems to be changing at the club.
Good.
For too long West Ham have repeated mistakes, expected different results, and hence lived the definition of insanity.
Is Egan a mistake?
After the recent transfer window?
I think the signing is a common sense signing, cover for a position. Not a $40M Kilman investment, but simply a free, EPL experienced signing. Unlikely to get game time?
I’m no Board devotee, but they took us from potential financial ruin, to us expecting Europe.
Let’s trust the process, Vlad just confirms there is one, and that’s what I wished for.
You have to admire the way Coufal thinks it was city’s third goal which won them the game. We won’ mention the second goal if you don’t Vladi.
