The Lucas Paqueta transfer saga has been a significant talking point for West Ham United. The club’s initial agreement with Manchester City fell through due to allegations of illegal betting activity, leading to a missed opportunity for a substantial transfer fee.

Karren Brady recently confirmed West Ham were on the verge of signing Cole Palmer from Man City for around £40m until the collapse of the Paqueta deal scuppered that plan.

But, journalist Graeme Bailey has claimed Manchester City were ‘more determined than ever’ to sign West Ham’s playmaker this summer.

While the outcome of the investigation into Paqueta’s alleged betting activities remains uncertain, the Hammers’ position is clear: they are keen to sell the Brazilian midfielder if the opportunity arises. Whilst there has been no final decision on the future of Paqueta, there is a growing confidence that the FA’s evidence is not strong enough and a verdict is expected ‘one way or another’ at the mid point of this season.

Manchester City’s recent decision to sign Ilkay Gundogan on a short-term deal suggests that they are still keeping an eye on Paqueta’s situation. The Premier League champions may be waiting for the outcome of the investigation before making a move.

That means the Irons are still in line to get a massive transfer fee for Paqueta – who, at 26, is entering his prime years.

Okay, call me petty but I guess I’m still kind of sick of all of this. I’m at the point where I hope Pacqueta makes the move and just gets it over with. He’s been pretty transparent in his desire to go. So, I hope he’s cleared of the betting scandal, I hope he makes his move to Man City, I hope Man City pays for him up front and I hope that Man City is found guilty of the 115 charges and is relegated the next day.

Who or where is this growing confidence, and if that is the case why another five months or so?

Graeme bailey is constantly trying to sell all west hams players . Pacqueta will in all likelihood end up at man city but it won’t be this summer. 2 very big reasons for that .
