West Ham United‘s acquisition of Aaron Wan-Bissaka represents a significant upgrade to their defensive options. The former Manchester United full-back brings a wealth of Premier League experience and defensive solidity to the Hammers.

The man Sam Allardyce called ‘the best right back in the Premier League‘ was interviewed for the West Ham United web site:

‘It was a no brainer for me to join West Ham – I’m excited and happy to be here. I can’t wait to get on the pitch, get to know the players, and push on from there.’

The 26 year old Londoner continued:

“It’s an amazing feeling to be back in London, and I’m excited for what’s coming. I was born here, so I know the ins and outs of London, which plays a big part in my life, so to be back playing in this city means a lot to me. I see a team that is in it together, that will push each other to win, and a group that has got each other’s backs through thick and thin, so being part of that and having that insurance helps a lot when you are surrounded by a good squad.”

While Coufal has been a valuable member of the West Ham squad, his attacking instincts sometimes leave the team exposed defensively.

Wan-Bissaka’s defensive prowess could offer a more balanced approach, allowing the Hammers to solidify their backline without sacrificing offensive output. He has a reputation as one of the best tackler’s in the Premier League and perhaps with Emerson given more licence on the opposite side of the pitch, AWB can perform a more disciplined role.

The competition for places at right-back is likely to benefit the team as a whole, with both players striving to impress the manager. Ultimately, the decision on who starts will depend on the opposition and the tactical requirements of the match.

With Wan-Bissaka in the squad, West Ham have strengthened their defensive options and increased their chances of achieving their goals for the upcoming season.

I seem to remember “the best right back in the Prem . . .” being suggested not so long ago for one of ours.
