There’s a situation vacant or two in West Hams front line as of next month: No Ings, No Ferguson and likely no Antonio either. So with just Niclas Fullkrug leading the line, the Irons are desperate to bolster the numbers in the goal scoring department. A paltry 43 goals in the Premier League is a dismal return for the season.

The forthcoming internationals next month can be a curse or a blessing: For fringe and aspirational players hoping to make a name for themselves there is every opportunity to stand out. Callum Marshall is definitely one who is desperate to impress his Hammers manager after a season-long loan at third tier Huddersfield.

Marshall’s loan is ended now, and he has just been called up into the full Northern Ireland squad for their friendly internationals in June against Denmark and Iceland. At just twenty, these will be his tenth and eleventh internationals and he’s already come close to scoring for his country, a goal being ruled out by VAR on his debut.

The games will be televised so Marshall will have every opportunity to stake a claim to be in Potter’s squad come August: The jury is out as to whether he’ll be loaned out again but Huddersfield have already staked their claim having awarded him their Player of the Season award.

Marshall himself has already stated his sole desire is to make it into the West Ham senior squad. Looking forward to cheering him on in June. Just what the Hammers need right now.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970.. Don't take my comments too seriously, imagine we are having a chat at half time over a pint at L S and "let's disagree without falling out".

Pointless as Potter won’t play him or any other centre forward for that matter. He’s too negative

Brilliant to read B’s comments and tempting to have CM playing alongside Fullkrug for example, but guess need to be patient. plus too concerned, were he at WHU next season, he’d be on the bench regardless.

Next season could go one of several ways with our unproven manager and perhaps he is better off continuing his development at a more stable club, especially after his great season at Huddersfield. Better off keeping his career on track, exactly as he is doing so brilliantly.

Offers a lot more than just goals. Has a work rate like Bowen. Most impressive youth player I’ve seen over the last few years.

  • Spindrift says:

Needs a loan to the championship next season, and somewhere he’ll definitely get game time. 9 goals in 43 games in League One is ‘decent’, rather than impressive.

    • Jon says:

Agreed. The Championship would be a good place to loan him out to further his development. It’s too big a leap from Huddersfield to the first team. We will struggle in the Premiership next season so no point putting huge expectations on him until we have a stronger strike force to ease him in gently if he proves his worth in the 2nd tier.
