Wanted Iron midfielder told he’s going nowhere

West Ham will reject all bids for Pedro Obiang in the winter market despite Fiorentina and Sampdoria continuing to track the player.

Reports in Europe are that he remains very much on the wanted list of both clubs but the Hammers – who have him under contract until 2022 – won’t entertain offers.

The club made the decision to allow Chiek Kouyate to leave in the last window with Obiang apparently ready to move back to Italy to be nearer his family.

But the manager has been impressed with the 26 year old’s training ground attitude and notable performance  against Everton which saw him force his way firmly back into the first team frame.

Various names have been put forward for winter moves but Obiang will be told that he is set to remain a Hammers player.

A source said: “He is tied down for another four years after signing an extension in 2017 and he is very firmly part of the first team set up.

“The interest from Italy is well known to us but he will be staying at West Ham.”

  1. At last a journalist that uses the correct singular IRON. Even the club has incorrectly printed IRONS plural on it’s shirts. The Thames Ironworks chant was always ‘Come on you IRON’ and all of the media in the day stated ‘the IRON’ singular for the team. It’s appalling that even the club do not respect (or investigate properly) our history and get our name wrong. We are the IRON or the Hammers.

  2. Class; you’ve taught me something today. Thank you. I had no idea that was the case! What an appalling fan I am! 🙂

  3. My own opinion of Obiang has been that he is too nice to be a defensive midfielder, but does not have enough attacking flair or technique to be an attacking central midfielder. He played the more attacking role for Sampdoria ( including against us ), but his game against Everton was the first time for ages that he was tried there for us. He certainly had his best ever game for us, so he will likely be kept there for the near future.
If he builds on that performance perhaps he will enjoy it, and want to stay after all. If he still wants to go back, then we could get more for him.
At the moment the position is his for the taking, but when Lanzini or even Wilshere returns, he will be under pressure for his place. If he performs well in that position consistantly, then he deserves to keep it, and it will be for Lanzini or Wilshere to work to take it off him.

    • Its a good point you make about being too nice Sleeps, hadn’t thought of it like that 🙂 like you I had said previously he used to rove forward for Sampdoria scoring the odd goal and making key passes, what he does give us wherever he plays is energy something that has been lacking in early season, I hope Declan proves me wrong also and turns into the answer at CDM because last week against Everton we looked competitive in Midfield, between the two of them they provide some legs which allows Noble a bit more freedom, I feel we do need a bit of iron in there (pun intended) to really boss it against the top 6 preferably with a football brain 🙂 lets see how the next few games go COYI !!!
