Ward-Prowse disappointed
Unlike others James Ward-Prowse is disappointed the Hammers didn’t beat Sheffield United more handsomely than 2-0 .
The manager and Tomas Soucek have both claimed only the points mattered – and of course that is right – before adding that the game was never going to be easy and a bigger score line difficult.
Ward-Prowse, however, has mentioned his own frustration that didn’t happen on a day when the Irons were by far the superior team.
And he feels that that means they must work hard to achieve further improvement – an entirely honest assessment on his part.
“We knew it was going to be a tough game, but the two early goals helped us and I think we’re a little bit disappointed that we couldn’t build on that [with more goals] in the second half.”

So far the 28 year old midfielder has scored two goals and made five assists in his first seven games as a Hammer which is pretty astonishing and shows how good players need little time to settle in.
He was also determined to thank the fans and staff inside the club – for helping him settle so quickly following his move from the south coast.
He added: “Everybody at the Club has been incredibly welcoming to me. I knew a couple of the lads before arriving here, which made things easier, but the Player Care team, all of the staff at the training ground, everybody has been so welcoming to me, made me feel straight at home and allowed me to do my thing on the pitch.
“Of course the fans have been terrific, and it helps that we’ve had a good start and we’ve had a few performances against some of the top teams. There are plenty of positives and lots to build on.”
He’s spot on. “The points are all that mattered” comment is just media trained rubbish. It DOES matter how you perform against inferior teams – that builds more confidence, as well as a better goal difference.
Remember the 2-1 win v Hull City in the Allardyce days? You can’t tell me that the points were all that mattered – it was horrific and the fans let the team know.
I’m glad we’re seeing some genuine honesty from players who want to strive for more and not happy with ‘okay’. Good for him.
So am I, I had him as captain in my fantasy football 😀
