Ward-Prowse says Hammers allowed standards to drop
Thankfully, whenever he is interviewed after a poor result – as was the case today – he is honest and gives it absolutely straight.
James Ward-Prowse reckons Hammers allowed standards to drop
There was no difference today when the West Ham media department decided to select him as the player to discuss the game immediately after the game.
As a former skipper of Southampton he is used to facing such situations and didn’t attempt to hide the fact that once again the squad had let itself down.
That we should put out such a strong team in a competition the manager is clearly taking very seriously and fail to hold onto a lead is poor in itself against a lower division club.
He gave his reaction to the result to www.whufc.com and is obviously eager to put things right in the replay but we really should have sorted things today.
He said: “Of course both teams would have preferred to settle it in one, but that’s the way it goes. “We’re still in the competition and have the chance to go through, but we’re disappointed with the way we played today.”
“I think we started the game really well, penned them in and showed our quality early on, but after that we seemed to drop our standards overall and they deservedly got back in the game.
The positive is we still have the chance to go through to the next round and still a chance to win silverware. That’s the main thing and If it takes another game to do it, then so be it. Hopefully it will be worth it in the end.”
