More encouraging news coming out of West Ham this morning suggesting Graham Potter’s squad is heading in the right direction. Now we don’t have this straight from the head coach, but our training ground sources would suggest TWO likely returns from injury to the squad in time for the Brentford fixture on 15th February.
However well Andrew Irving – West Ham’s ‘Irn-Bru Iniesta’- performed in midfield, it will be good news indeed to welcome back Edson Alvarez to the squad – whether, or not Graham Potter selects him for the home fixture, the squad will be stronger as a result of his return from injury.
Similarly we believe that Lucas Paquetá could return for the same match after his absence from training following the groin strain picked up during the fixture against Aston Villa. The Brazilian is starting something of a renaissance under Graham Potter’s regime and his return will be a big boost for the squad seeking a victory to put clear water between West Ham and the relegation zone: Hammers currently sit fifteenth, ten points clear of the relegation zone. Three points would be a welcome boost and could mov the club up two places depending on other results.
Paquetá will be able to return to a more normal position in the team with Bowen’s recovery and Ferguson’s loan providing more attacking options for Potter.
With the news of Summerville’s serious hamstring injury morale will be boosted by the likely return of two senior Hammers to the squad ahead of next weekend.
Irving over Alvarez all day long…… Alvarez is an absolute liability, just a card collector! ☘️⚒️
Sorry but I just don’t see how Alvarez coming back strengthens the squad? The guy is a complete liability. He has no pace, his timing of a tackle is dreadful hence the amount of cards he gets. It just a case of when, not if he gets a yellow during games.
Give me Andy Irving every time, same mould as Billy Bond’s, Scott Parker and Mark Noble always gives 110% don’t know how he lasted so long on his full debut. Alvarez is a reckless liability and run’s around like a headless chicken. Soler is intelligent and quality, Ward-Prowse offer’s passing and set-piece ability, Soucek is superb in and around both 18 yard box’s and then we’ve multiple attacking options Paqueta, Kudus, Summerville, Emerson, Bowen not to mention the youngster’s. Thankfully we now have a Head Coach with some vision and long term aspirations.
Fully agree COYI, pity we got robbed at Chelsea
