“We Need More Players” I J-Lo Speaks Out

This morning’s friendly illustrated only too well how West Ham United were a sorry second best to Wolves. Simon has commented in his earlier piece on the comments from our head coach- two very interesting points need highlighting though.

Speaking for the official whufc.com press release, Lopetegui’s ‘Reaction’ contained a small sentence hidden away which serves as a fairly frank statement regarding the position the club is in at this stage in the transfer window.

“We have to analyse this match with calmness, but always knowing that sometimes this is not a bad thing that this happens in the pre-season, because I want us to know more about our needs, and for us to know we have to align and work together for the first match in the Premier League that is more or less in three weeks.”

To me, this speaks volumes. I hope the right people are listening: ‘I want us to know more about our needs’:  would that be management-speak for ‘we need more players’. and ‘For the first match in the Premier League that is more or less in three weeks’ would that mean ‘we need more players NOW’.

Highlighting our new head coaches’ well documented previous track record with club owners serves only to be alarmist. Suffice to say Señor Lopetegui is clearly highlighting urgent needs. Let us hope his words are heeded and the reinforcements arrive after a so-far challenging transfer window. Good players are still available but as the clock ticks down and previous ‘targets’ such as El- Nesyri, O’Brien, Soulé etc..etc.. get snapped up by other clubs, the worry of course is that we enter a new season with an ‘old guard’.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970.. Don't take my comments too seriously, imagine we are having a chat at half time over a pint at L S and "let's disagree without falling out".

The squad is just too small and not good enough. Some players seem either not fully fit or are not interested in running. There was no marking whatsoever in two of the goals conceded.

Wolves have no trouble buying good players abroad for reasonable fees (e.g. Gomes from Braga). Why do we insist in trying to buy Premier players for crazy money? Don’t we have scouts abroad?

Despite JL’s best efforts this could be a very long season without adequate reinforcements.

Remember it was only a pre-season run out for conditioning purposes. The eleven that started the game were totally different to those that finished it. None of the young players such as Earthy, Casey, Potts, Orford and Marshall, (plus Irving and Foderingham) would’ve started against Wolves if this was a Premier League match in a months’ time.
If Gary O’Neil hadn’t made all of those substitutions mid-way through the second half, I doubt that Wolves would’ve scored two late goals. The fresh legs made one helluva difference.
Let’s not overreact……the team that runs out against Villa on 17th August will look very different.

Ultimately it doesn’t matter if we have a new Technical Director of football with a proposed change in the way we do transfers if the person who has his hands on the purse strings refuses to ever change his old habits, the process won’t run smoothly because the two sides are pulling in different directions.

This is a sorry state of affairs and JLo has publicly admitted it.
No good pointing fingers they are all as bad as each other.
Reached a point when Moyes wasn’t talking to Tim and now seems like nobody is listening to anybody.
Whenever a player is transferred somebody else that’s never been mentioned appears
What about other 150 which have already been linked?
Whole selection process is hit and miss not very professional.
Sergio Roberts is one of the latest.
He’s out of age group but as a freebie who can play multiple positions could solve a number of problems short term.

I do not understand the lack of realism that is floating around this site. do we or do we not have a spending budget of 90 million , of which 65 million has already been spent acquiring one automatic slot in the team . the remaining 25 million will need to be needed for the rest!
equals an impossibility. surely the solution must lie in prioritising say 3 key players and go all out to get them , for example at the beginning we could have bought BRUNO a flexible defender , the deal stalled only apparently because he wanted a fair wage to move to London.
beyond this coach knows he will need to get the best out of the existing talent . the down side is this cannot be achieved immediately . but does not preclude the team providing attractive football.

  • Nick says:

With the lies of Everton and Leicester signing our supposed targets, the worry is that we are not that attractive a proposition or we’re offering pocket money in wages or transfer fees, this sort of news travels via agents and can easily put people off dealing with us as a club.

J-Lop walked from wolves over transfers, could it be 2/2 if the board and TS don’t strata getting names on dotted lines?

  • Spindrift says:

This is the first time Lopetegui has had to see several key first teamers playing to his system. Hence his comments.

Nobody doubts we need more players. More importantly, the *right* players. And there’s not a massive amount of movement in the market in general. That will change, I’m sure.

We are always sold the same old song from Sullivan and co regarding transfer targets. We bid for them but either their club or agents collapsed the deals. We are being taken for mugs by Sullivan and Brady.I was one off many true committed west ham season ticket holders who left the stadium in droves v Arsenal at home.Moyes was we were told on the verge of signing a new 3 year contract. As we left the stand at 0-5 ten minutes into the second half we were abused by other supporters with no brains! We wanted Moyes gone after 2 years of dross.Would you go back to a restaurant after being served an awful meal and being charged a lot off money for it? So why should we accept mediocrity and never challenge the elite premier league clubs ? West ham need to buy decent players now not next season and back Lopetegui and steinden as promised? Sullivan is the chief culprit here no manager can perform to his best level without being backed to build a team.SULLIVAN NEEDS TO SELL UP OR RESIGN!!!

  • Martin storrie says:

Today’s result was a dot on the card ‘s, we needed to bring in at least 8 players , Sullivan has allowed funds for 2, what sort of season is ahead, stop your dithering get some cash out & buy the players the new manager wants before he walks & we head straight to the bottom of the table. Purchases should be out there on tour, bedding in . Same old story on transfers I’m afraid, same old Sullivan.

  • Keith says:

Same old it’s getting ridiculous buy some new players instead of just talking about it. Every day you see a different player it’s just getting very tiredness 😩 get some real cash out and westham fans and the club is getting a joke so far I reckon seen about 20 different players that were buying and still no striker. And taking about getting back European football were be lucky if we stay Premier league 3 weeks left get it sorted before the mighty hammers go down fed up with all the bull ****

    • Kip says:

Been saying exactly the same mate ..I’ve given up…no-one listens on here ..just going round un circles

  • Anon says:

    The problem is Sullivan

    • Fred says:

      Rubbish .
How do you work that out !
He has put his gand in his pocket and we have spent mpney and broken a transfer recotds several times .
You may not like hum but cant really fault him.

    • FrankieMacsBack says:

Of course it is! How do you work that one out then? Sullivan signs off on a deal, have any supposed signings broken down because Sullivan refused to pay the money? No,thought not.

  • Dave says:

    Moyes has been the problem.
    Left a depleted, ageing squad.
Had 4 years to get a centre forward, not a few just one. Failed miserably when others have been fine.
Bought 3 bang average centre backs for about 90m, waste..
Let’s see what super Tim does now, squad strength is now on him…

    • Vagner Gonçalves says:

      Esse treinador terá muito trabalho!
Moyes deixou um elenco curto e envelhecido, paciência meus amigos pois acredito que vamos ter sucesso com esse treinador.

  • Craig says:

Sullivans on the blower already he has contacted Moyes about coming back as the new man is trouble and wants to spend to much money.
