“We want what Declan wants” – Moyes

David Moyes insists the Hammers want every single thing that Declan Rice wants as the club bid to keep him at the London Stadium.

The England international won Player of the Year at the London Football Awards over the weekend and gave an interview after triumphing in which he laid out his ambitions.

He has insisted that he wants to play in the Champions League and win the biggest trophies in the game, leading some to speculate that he could leave the Hammers this summer.

But Moyesie insists that the Irons are striving to reach the level where they are consistently playing in Europe and winning trophies, and he believes Declan can be a key part of that strategy.

He told reporters: “We want that as much as Declan does. The biggest thing for me is if he comes with that mentality and that hunger and sees himself at that level, that’s exactly what you want as a manager.

“That means they have a drive and a goal to aim for. What we need is for everybody to join in and get us at that level and show exactly what they can do.

Let’s be fair, the group of players we have got are really punching… I wouldn’t say punching above their weight but they are certainly challenging and keeping it going and showing we can compete.”
