West Ham sources have remained tight-lipped about the exact figure they offered Aston Villa for Jhon Duran during the summer transfer window, though they confirm they made a strong effort despite limited financial resources. Initial reports suggested that West Ham’s £35 million bid fell £5 million short of Villa’s asking price. However, last week, Fabrizio Romano, who is speculated to have connections with Tim Steidten, claimed the bid was actually £43 million plus a sell-on clause, which was still rejected.
Claret & Hugh contacted our top source within the club to ask for the true details, but all we were told was, “we bid hard.”
Meanwhile, Aston Villa insiders maintain that their valuation of Duran was £60 million, including add-ons, along with a sell-on clause and a buy-back option. With so many varying stories, it’s difficult to know what to believe; however, it is understandable that West Ham would have rejected any deal that included a buy-back clause.
The 20-year-old striker, who sparked speculation by posting a video over the summer featuring crossed Hammers, has since netted 6 goals in 9 appearances this season, including the match-winner against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Duran clearly wanted to come to Hammers but between them the powers that be decided that a crippled past it German with no on sale value was a better bet … really !!!! we have seen it all before . Sullivan and co know the cost of everything but the value of nothing . It seems to be looking like volume rather than quality and growth were the targets in the summer . Rodriquez has nothing to offer and Soler has a lot of improving to do . I have lost count of the number of years and strikers we have had … here was the opportunity to invest but we blew it . Bottom 6 if we are lucky … bottom 3 a distinct possibility . Moyes has a lot to answer for . He left a team of out of contract or over the hill players and the board replaced him with a clone … so sad …
In respect of the club there was too much to do in the summer window but a great job was done by Tim Steidten. Why there was too much to do is clearly because we had the second oldest squad and smallest squad. With some leaving and of those not all being the oldest we were in something of a mess. We could have gotten Duran but the real cost would have been a smaller squad with gaps in it.
As for Lopetegui not playing what he’s been given, that is where I’m not impressed. My opinion of him is that he’d struggle to get a tune out of Spotify let alone get one out of his starting lineup whichever he picks.
And if my auntie had b@@@@@ she’d be my uncle…..who cares now that horse bolted along time ago,we didn’t get him, that was back in August enough column inches were reported on it back then,it’s now October let it go ffs……
As for this we won the transfer window bol#£ks,not looking very good now is it when we’ve got a Manager who doesn’t even play them,
most important thing this season is too just stay up.
Those of you thinking we’d be pushing for Europe,Mugs,we won’t even beat Ipswich today, we might have a better team on papers but they play as a team we look like a team of strangers…..Long long season ahead
Nice info even though the smoke and mirrors still cloud the facts (and always will). You feel it was one of those deals that was never going to get over the line unless we broke the bank, threw in players, gave them everything they wanted and more.
Hopefully it will quiet those people saying “if we put our hands in our pockets we could have got the deal … look how good he is”. It was never going to happen.
