Claret & Hugh have spoken directly to a high-ranking official at West Ham within the last hour in an attempt to verify last night’s breaking news that the Hammers were bidding for N’Golo Kanté.

The top Hammers source informed us that West Ham had, in fact, been working on the Kanté transfer for ‘weeks’. The move for the French international is described as ambitious and a ‘long shot’, and it appears that while there is interest from the Hammers, the deal is not close.

C&H also inquired as to whether Kanté would be a replacement for Manchester United target Edson Alvarez. Our source replied by saying, “No, Alvarez is injured anyway; he’ll miss the first few games of the season.”

Kanté’s career is enjoying something of an Indian summer with his recent form in Euro 2024, where he was arguably France’s best player and one of the top performers in the tournament as a whole.

33 year old Kante would cost West Ham in the rejoint of £20 million were he to move to East London from Al-Ittihad.

It’s not the £20M bit that I have a problem believing, it’s that we would be paying his wages.

He appears to be on 423k a week at Al ittihad.

It doesn’t seem terribly likely does it.

This anonymous “high nranking official”, appears to be telling porkies, or perhaps all the stuff we’ve been told about younger signings and Tim being in charge of transfers is complete rubbish, or perhaps this is just more clickbait.

Fabrizo Romano said it all on Instagram…..”have tried”

Sullivan has form with so called bids. Latest one I can remember was Jeremy Doku. Like he was ever going to choose us over City!

    Once upon a time……..

£20 million seems a bit steep for a 33 year old. He has the quality, no doubt about that but hoping for another 4 years of Kante is a risk. Saying that, it depends on the scouting. Does he keep himself in shape, life style etc. He was amazing in Euro 24 better than most midfielders
