Reports that West Ham United will have to move quickly to secure the signing of Ajax winger Steven Bergwijn are wide of the mark. There appears to be some speculation circulating that the Hammers face stiff competition from the Saudi Pro League for the player’s signature.
However, it is our understanding that West Ham have little or no interest in the player at this time, and any Saudi club would have a clear run.
The Hammers are looking to inject some new life into their squad this summer and have already splashed out on centre-back Max Kilman and young midfielder Luis Guilherme. Wes Foderingham has also joined to add to West Ham’s goalkeeping options.
But reports that Tim Steidten wants to bring former Tottenham Hotspur winger Bergwijn back to the Premier League are probably based on transfer rumours from last season. Corinthians winger Wesley remains high on the list of candidates, and West Ham would certainly look to bring him in before any move for the Dutchman.
Bergwijn, 26, joined Tottenham Hotspur in January 2020 and made 83 appearances for the club before a feud with manager Antonio Conte preceded his departure two years later. He managed eight goals and nine assists during his time in England.
Claret & Hugh will attempt to get some clarification on the situation from our top club source in an attempt to clear up the huge number of rumoured targets.
No mention of adding l/bk with only Emerson available (if he don’t go).
Can’t include Cresswell at best he is going to be on bench and not really a first team player.
Gonzo i am impressed that you remembered Wes Foderingham!…. i suspect like a lot of clubs now that the tournaments here and in South America are done and dusted that movement will start to happen very quickly indeed…..but a striker and RB need looking at first before we go wing hunting again.
Finally securing Wesley might make more sense, and so add to the team another young player with great growth potential (or so it is said). But it sure is taking a long time to happen.
