West Ham United are reportedly back in the race for French central defender Jean-Clair Todibo. The Hammers had never officially withdrawn from the pursuit of the Ligue 1 centre-back; however, Todibo had expressed a preference for joining Serie A side Juventus.
Unfortunately for Todibo, the Italian club has been unable to match West Ham’s £27m agreement for the player, leading to a halt in negotiations. Juventus have been attempting to raise funds during this transfer window but have struggled to generate sufficient interest in their own players to support their transfer activities.
This situation has left Nice in a difficult position with an unsettled player. Todibo had initially agreed to join West Ham until Juventus showed interest, and now the Hammers are looking to revive the deal.
Nice are actively seeking to sell the twice capped French international and have several replacements in mind. However, the delay with Todibo is reportedly complicating their plans for the upcoming season.
Whether West Ham can persuade Todibo that his future lies at London Stadium remains to be seen, but they are not giving up just yet.
This would really be an excellent signing IF we can persuade him to sign. Obviously he wants Juventus and that’s totally understandable. But if they can’t sign him maybe, just maybe there’s an outside chance he’ll come to us.
