West Ham 0-2 Crystal Palace
Fabianski:5 Made a save from Mateta but it was a long-range effort. Good double save on 78 mins. Really poor as he cleared out Nketiah to concede a penalty.
Mavropanos:5 Out muscled by Mateta early on. Made an excellent dribble up the pitch on 18 mins. Took a yellow for the team which would later come back to haunt him as he was sent off for a high boot challenge in the 80th min.
Kilman:4 Beaten by Mateta early on but he was far from alone in that regard. Had to do increasingly more as the first half progressed due to West Ham’s lack of an attack. Terrible defending for Palace opener as he backed off and encouraged a shot on goal. Disappointed how frequently he chose to ignore the option of passing to the academy boys to hoof it long.
Cresswell:5 Had an opportunity to score but it seemed to surprise him. Did okay considering his time away from the team but deliveries were hit & miss.
Wan Bissaka:6 Shot a difficult half volley well wide. One of the few players to provide good running from open play as Potters depleted team played for set-pieces. Poor passing at times. He had energy which remained until the end.
Rodriguez:5 Played his part in a forgettable first half where The Hammers limited Palace to very little but ultimately his lack of invention was a microcosm of the team display.
Alvarez:6 Quite advanced at times. Concerningly continued to bait the officials after receiving a card.
Soucek:5 Continued to move the ball more quickly than than the Soucek of old but didn’t trouble a more mobile Palace team.
Paqueta:6 Continued to try and create but lack of fast runners to pick out made his task more difficult. Injured in the warm-up.
Emerson:5 Good cross to set up Wan Bissaka. Like many of his teammates seemed to lack the guile or energy to trouble The Eagles.
Kudus:6 Did some excellent hold-up play and looked better than against Fulham. Really had to work hard in a thankless role. Palace did a good job of forcing Kudus away from goal.
Substitutes:
Soler:6 Half time replacement for Rodriguez
Scarles:7 55th min sub for Emerson as part of a triple change. immediately better than anything seen in the first half.
Ings:7 On for Paqueta. One of the few players to show real energy.
Orford:6 Long overdue Premier League debut for Orford who replaced Cresswell. Brought more snap to the passing.
Guilherme: 82nd min sub for Alvarez as 10 men West Ham got desperate.
Good insights – e.g. about Kilman not passing to the academy players. And I would also have scored Kilman – who to me seemed slow and unwilling to commit – lower than the unfortunate Mavro. I didn’t notice that Scarles and Orford contributed that much after coming on – though I like that they’re getting playing time. The team was lacklustre but injuries and knocks to players today didn’t help.
Fabs getting a 5?
Very generous, as he could have done better with the 1st and didn’t need to give the penalty away. (Not to mention his 2 soft goals on Tuesday).
I didn’t see Kudos holding the ball and involving others in the play, he looks like he’s already gone.
Don’t understand why no-one ever mentions how poor AWB is at getting back to defend. Didn’t see him sprint back to defend, always just jogged, even when Mateta & Nketia were through on goal. Not the 1st game he’s done this either
Looks like an agreeable awful performance, the big Greek always gotta a mistake in him, but what about that Kilman, his friends will say he was exposed, I say he’s running scared and easily beaten. I’m not gonna slate the whole team on here, but I watched this game on tv from afar and I was shocked by what I saw, on many occasions when we made errors the close up shots of our new manager showed him staring into the turf like a confused bystander who’s been misunderstood. I’m all for giving him time and obviously hope he turns us around, but I didn’t think his body language expressed the confidence we’ve been told about
Be a season ticket holder & go to every home game before you start criticising players & the manager, it’s totally different being at a game than being an armchair fan.
Academy bias again from Gonzo. Scarles was bang average and Orford was poor (and there certainly wasn’t any “snap” to his passing, unless you went “oh snap, look who passed sideways/backwards again”).
Game after game Kilmans man scores or creates havoc . He is a terrible defender and weak in the tackle . Never seen at set pieces or corners . Total waste of money . The Greek gets bad press and makes mistakes but he is a far better actual defender than Kilman . Steitden has landed us with a load of geriatric rubbish and needs to be looking for another job .
Very generous ratings tbh
How any of the starting 11 was awarded more than a 4 boggles the mind. Slow, lazy and lacking imagination.
Kilman gave the ball away rather than pass which led to the Fabianski foul. Kudus is a defensive liability. AWB looked lost. Alvarez has completely lost his mojo and so on. Perhaps Soucek held his own.
Dosnt matter about tactics or management at the min we are losing because we desperately need reinforcements…
Simple as that ..
..so so thin no options at all …you could see this in the Fulham game.
And that’s why fans can’t believe that there not even close to any new players yet .
We just got to survive ..the season was gone after villa
Kilman worse than Mavrapanos?! Were we watching the same match. Dinos was shocking. Has to go.
Yes I would say a thousand times worse. I don’t think we are watching different matches, I think you’re watching a different sport
Clearest second best. Two conceded again is the thing that has to stop. Away to Villa next…
