Areola:9 Had to be alert to deal with a deflected shot on 22 mins. Double save on 31 mins. Big save just before half time. Called into action again early in the second half. Had a very busy night.

Johnson:6 Steady first half following his nightmare performance against the same team last season.

Mavropanos:8 Getting better with every game.

Ogbonna:7 Unflustered first half but had to defend more as Brighton grew into the game and West Ham stopped attacking.

Emerson:6 Wasted an excellent chance to cross when Soucek was in the box.

Alvarez:8 Displayed every facet of his game. Incredible player. Tried to launch attacks on occasion as West Ham huffed and puffed with no creativity.

Soucek:5 Played an excellent ball to Bowen who was just offside. Missed a great chance from 5 yards. Looked tired.

Ward Prowse:6 Forced a great save with a stinging left foot shot. Pressed well from the front.

Fornals:4 Worked really hard on the right wing but not quick enough to threaten Brighton’s defence. Really just deployed as a defensive wide player.

Benrahma:6 Shot well wide following a decent dribble. Not his worst game and one exchange with Emerson was particularly good. Good piece of defending on 71 mins. Surprised to see him subbed instead of Fornals.

Bowen:6 Looked sharp and kept the Brighton defenders on their toes. Hardly any supply. Switched to the right but looked very frustrated.
