Player Ratings: West Ham 1-0 Southampton

|

By Gonzo

Fabianski:8 Produced an amazing save on 30 mins to deny Perraud. Decisive punch late in the second half cut-out a Southampton cross.

Kehrer:7 Bizarrely found himself in the strikers position following a run forward late in the first half. Possibly his best performance at right back but always makes me nervous. Attacked well at times.

Zouma:7 Steady Eddie and very calm, West Ham are better when he plays.

Aguerd scored his first goal for West Ham

Aguerd:8 Scored after 25 mins with a towering header from a deep freekick. VAR took an eternity to verify the goal. Read the game beautifully at times.

Emerson:6 Forced back into a lot of early defending, like the rest of the team grew in confidence following Aguerd’s goal.

Rice:8 Started the game with high energy and a flurry of tackles. Often a level above everyone else.

Soucek:5 Clumsy and wasteful with the ball, he’s in the team to tackle and header so it feels harsh to assess him for his passing and ball control but ultimately he’s a midfielder. Outclassed by Lavia.

Paqueta:7 Still struggling to find his best position or enough attacking players to pass to, So much of what he tries doesn’t work but he is class. His work-rate would have pleased David Moyes. Capable of producing outrageous skill at times. Fired over from 5 yards.

Bowen:7 Worked tirelessly but given very little service. Hit the bar with a good effort but Paqueta was free for a pass and in a better position. Made a nice pass to try and supply Ings. Had a number of shots and looked lively despite being fouled repeatedly.

Benrahma:7 Tracked back and made an important tackle to thwart Walker Peters. Played a glorious pass to Thilo Kehrer. Attempted some crosses with his left foot which kept his opposite number guessing.

Ings:5 Sloppy in possession to begin with. Hard to blames Ings who doesn’t suit the manager or system and as a result is frequently uninvolved.

Antonio: 64th min sub for the ineffective but hard working Danny Ings. Didn’t do too much but immediately made the Saints defence sit 10 yards further back.

Downes: On for Tomas Soucek in the 67th min. Made a crucial interception from perraud in the 77th min.

Fornals: 87th min sub for Paqueta

Cresswell: Late times wasting substitution for Emerson

I’m with Hammer_Rite on this. I thought Soucek was dire, embarrassingly bypassed by most of the game, and his tackling was as terrible as his passing. Should not be playing at the mo. I liked Bowen, particularly second half. Hard working and dangerous he gave them no peace. Benny was double marked, so he kept two players busy just being there.

I agree with you about soucek.Just wanders about the pitch doing absolutely nothing.why Moyes keeps playing him i don’t know
Disagree about Bowen though, thought he had a good game and he always gives 100 percent.

Great result but how woeful was the performance, 2 shots on target and just over 40% of possession against a woeful team. We are in big trouble under Moyes and we could be back in a relegation spot by mid week. I agree with all scores except Soucek and Bowen. I have never grew to dislike a player even though I like him as a person. I blame Moyes totally for this, he can no longer start for us. We just cannot play through midfield when he is there. Biwen was dire not sure how u could give him a 7.
