Areola:8 Six mins in, Areola made a series of saves during a game of football pinball as City attacked. Made numerous saves throughout the game and not at fault for the equaliser.
Coufal:6 Given the horrendous task of having to mark the electric Doku. Exchanged passes with Bowen and lofted over a delicious cross for JWP to head West Ham in front. Bitter sweet for Coufal as he got turned inside out by Doku as Man City drew level.
Zouma:7 You could probably copy and paste any of Zouma’s last ten player rating appraisals here. Mr consistent and Mr resilient. I’ve run out of platitudes for the new captain. Produced an amazing save from Edison.
West Ham 1 Manchester City 3. A mixed bag for the Hammers defensive pairing.
Aguerd:6 Missed a glorious chance to put West Ham ahead following Soucek’s flick-on from a corner. Played his part in a disciplined defensive display and cleared off the line from Haaland. Stunning 60 yard pass to Coufal. Terrible defending as he mistimed his jump and allowed Bernado Silva to win a header and win City the game.
Emerson:7 Great solo run midway through the second half should have resulted in a goal for Ward Prowse. Almost scored in the second half.
Soucek:6 Cleared off the line early in the game. Battled and blocked as always. Tendency to needlessly give the ball away with seemingly easy passes.
Alvarez:8 Dropped in as the third central defender when West Ham didn’t have the ball (which was pretty much all of the time).
Ward Prowse:7 Played as the furthest forward of our midfielders and stooped like Trevor Brooking to head the Hammers into the lead.
Paqueta:8 Deployed on the left side of midfield but allowed to roam. Looked impressive at times.
Bowen:6 Spent the majority of the game helping Coufal, but looked sharp.
Antonio:5 Frustratingly, Antonio was deployed so deep early in the game, that even when West Ham did win the ball he wasn’t available as an outlet. Really poor first touch at times but improved significantly as the first half progressed. Given a great chance from a Paqueta pass but his first touch was awful.
Kudus:6 On for Antonio and part of a double substitution. Looked good in flashes but West Ham had very little of the ball so only saw three glimpses.
Benrahma:5 65th min sub for the injured Alvarez. Had a great chance to attack but made it too easy for Walker.
