West Ham 2 Burnley 2: Player Ratings

West Ham 2 Burnley 2

Areola:7 Nothing he could do about Burnley’s opener or the OG that followed. Not too much to do. Saved the game in the 98th min with a crucial block.

Coufal:6 Fully committed to the cause and attacked well. Could have done better in the build-up to Burnley’s second.

Mavropanos:4 Really tried to make things happen but his distribution was terrible. His clumsy play was highlighted when he deflected the ball into his own net from a Josh Cullen cross.

Aguerd:5 Terrible defending and decision making as Burnley opened the scoring.

Cresswell:5 Looked sharp enough but the left side of the team (and the middle) didn’t really function.

Phillips:2 Very sloppy start to the game saw him lose possession easily.

Soucek:6 Actually tackled very well but part of a midfield which didn’t function. Had a half-chance with 10 mins remaining and another in injury time.

Ward Prowse:3 Won’t have impressed the watching Gareth Southgate who will no have liked what he saw from JWP & Phillips. Missed a decent chance.

Paqueta:7 Started on the left then moved infield to try and make something happen. Immediate impact as he scored straight after the break.

Kudus:7 The singular threat in the first half. Blazed over following great work from Bowen. Set up Ings well.

Bowen:7 Put in a couple of decent crosses in the first half. Moved to the right wing in the half time reshuffle. Tried everything he could.

Substitutes

Antonio:6 Half time double substitution saw Phillips and Ward Prowse removed. Made an immediate impact by at least giving the Burnley defenders something to think about.

Alvarez:6 Got partial control of the midfield for the second half. Made a goal saving tackle.

Ings:9 81st min sub for Aguerd. Scored immediately but was unlucky to see it ruled offside. Made an impact straight after with a fantastic swivel & shot to score an injury time equaliser. Ings then hit the bar with another shot on the turn. Incredible impact on the game.

Just coming back from the match JWP is NOT a footballer Maybe a golfer but cannot play with a moving ball. Philips what the hell has happened to him? The first half only Coufal, Bowen & Kudus could hold their head up. The rest were awful. Areola’s distribution was also woeful. Half time Moyes at last grew a pair & made the right subs. But please do not play JWP & Phillips again. I know we didn’t deserve it but how did var give offside? Just because you draw the lines in the wrong place doesn’t make it offside. As for the hand ball decision well there’s nothing to say
