Player Ratings from West Ham’s Premier League win over Luton
Areola:5 Not too much to do aside from picking the ball out of his net. Hardly had a save to make.
Coufal:7 Played with real urgency and tried to join the attack where possible. Excellent run in the build-up to Earthy’s goal.
Zouma:6 Too sluggish allowing Adebayo to run away from him in the build up to the opener. Made an excellent block on 13 mins but aggravated his long standing knee injury. Recovered well.
Ogbonna:6 Flat footed for Luton’s opener after 5 mins. Didn’t really have much to do.
Emerson:6 Enjoyed having Paqueta back on the left. Missed from 7 yards out.
Ward Prowse:7 Surprisingly chosen ahead of Alvarez and displayed his lack of defensive instinct for Lokonga’s opener. Not really involved until he scored with a well directed shot on 53 mins then influenced the game more.
Soucek:8 Some good clearances but struggled with Chongs movement but made a goal saving header on 52 mins. Scored an incredible left foot volley on 64 mins.
Paqueta:6 Set up Bowen with a good chance on 12 mins and looked sharper than recent games.
Bowen:7 Saw a good effort hit the post then had another blocked by Mengi. Bowen’s shot helped set up Ward Prowse’s goal. Looked sharp all game.
Kudus:6 Started in a central position but improved in the second half on the left. Missed an open goal when under no pressure but set-up Earthy brilliantly. Game of two halves like many others.
Antonio:5 Looked to get a knock early on but continued. Won some freekicks but never really troubled the Luton defence until the second half when the team picked up.
Substitutes
Earthy:10 74th min sub for Antonio. Incredibly scored with his first touch following great work by Coufal & Kudus.
Ings: 83rd mins sub for Paqueta
Cresswell: 83rd min sub for Emerson
Thanks David Moyes. I, for one, appreciate the transformation of a relegation bound team, under your direction. I wish you all the best
Armo
That turned into an enjoyable game against poor opposition. As we’ve seen over the last few months, we always look so much better when we play on the front foot. I don’t know why the defense has deteriorated so much — it’s supposed to be Moysie’s great strength, and we used to look so much more organized. At any rate, it’s all blood under the bridge at this point. I’m very grateful to David Moyes for giving us a trophy and the other good things we intermittently saw, and I’m also looking forward to a fresh approach in the fall.
Looking forward to us making the top 4 every year while playing exciting football and lots of teenagers, just like this side has been hammering Moyes for not doing
Game changed when Barclay went off injured he was bossing the midfield, Moyes got lucky again
Yeah, just like he’s been getting lucky for 4 years
Coufal MoM. Great performance start to finish
He was largely to blame for Luton’s goal – completely failed to close down the crosser.
Like Emerson, he’s good going forward but neither FB can defend properly which is why we have conceded so many goals this year
Redundant point now he’s going but did he really put Cresswell on again – why? Sky suggested Casey. Last few games though he’s put Cresswell on who is a busted flush and is leaving, why not a young player?
Farewell appearance ?
I agree. Put on Mubama and Casey first, then Cresswell and the dreadful Ings, who once again showed how useless he was. If anything Moyes learnt it was that he should have introduced Earthy earlier in the season like several other youth. Be careful what you wish for.
Earthy the highlight of the year.
