West Ham are “a million miles away” from completing a deal for Lille midfielder Angel Gomes.

The former Manchester United graduate is available on a free transfer at the end of the season but can sign a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside France now.

Rumours have been circulating that the Hammers are close to agreeing a deal with the England midfielder, but Claret & Hugh understands that is not the case.

The Hammers have been trying to negotiate with Gomes’ representatives via a third party, and talks have been held. However, we have been informed that West Ham are nowhere near agreeing terms with the player.

It is also understood that Gomes’ representatives are in negotiations with two other Premier League clubs, although it’s uncertain how close they might be to agreeing a deal.

As has been pointed out to Claret & Hugh, there is very little need to wait when attempting to sign any player on a pre-contract agreement. Once a contract is agreed, a player can sign immediately with a view to joining the new club next season.

Do we really think he will do well in the Premier league , I’m glad we can’t sign him , he will flop

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

I don’t see him coming to West Ham when he will have teams in Europe to choose from even though he is the perfect player in a Potter team, he slows the game down which is a characteristic of Potter midfields. If we have £57m to spend spend enough on him, why are we going through a third party when we can legally go direct to his agent???

    • FrankieMacsBack says:

How many football clubs have you negotiated with? Do you know how it works? The “£57m” has nothing to do with how much we offer this player,we could be offering him a very lucrative deal, you don’t know anymore than I do.

Thank goodness for this headline. Angel Gomez is not a good fit for our future. Or present for that matter.

  • Essexiron67 says:

Well fellow contributers I didn’t realise we had so many in-house candidates for the striker vacancy ,I’d give Gladys a go as she manages to walk round adsa while shopping unaided

  • Artran says:

Why the hell would Angel Gomes want to come to West Ham? The guy is a talented player who would probably have the choice from plenty of more higher profile outfits than us
    .

Could be a good pickup as he is for next season so what’s hard regarding negotiations, other than its us . My mate used to be a semipro striker, I’ve told him to stay up on deadline day as he’s up there with some of our potential targets even though both knees are shot and he’s 81 but you never know ,we might try

If your mate is available on a free then Sullivan would definitely be interested! The only competition would be the tea lady.

      • The Artist Formerly known as B says:

My ITK contact tells me that Gladys (The Tea Lady) has refused Tim ze Gerrmun access to the tea trolley and banned him access to the chocy digestives… all not well behind the scenes…. 😄

  • JB15 says:

All this Tim Steidten bashing, but he dealt with negotiations quickly, efficiently and got deals done, even when those players weren’t of his choosing. Now Sullivan is back at the wheel, we’re back to ‘we tried’, low-ball insulting offers, zero professionalism and taking weeks to ‘enquire’ about players.

We’ll end up at the end of January with no-one, or a Danny Ings panic buy mark 2, because yet again, we’ve failed to plan ahead.

The circus will never end until Sullivan sells up.

    • B says:

Fair enough, Steidten got players signed (And off’ed most of those deemed surplus to requirements) pretty swiftly and most players (IMHO) have been good buys.
But please don’t believe everything you read in the news or websites, clickbaiting you into their sites with made up nonsense.

      • JB15 says:

Of course I don’t believe it all, but the sheer amount of it means some of it must be true. Sullivan has had YEARS of unprofessionalism when it comes to transfers – it’s been proven. You only have to see the email he sent to Sporting’s chairman when he tried to sign William Carvalho years ago – it was embarrassing. Even Sam Allardyce confirming that Sullivan would give him players as ‘surprises’ that he knew nothing about.

The guy doesn’t know how to run a football club properly – it’s a genuine circus run by clowns.

    • Dean says:

Spot on JB, both this site and West Ham zone have been putting out anti Steidten propaganda on an industrial scale. I have a terrible feeling that Callum Wilson will be the player we end up with at the end of this window, perfect for sulli and the trusted agents

    • M B says:

Spot on and there is zero chance of anyone signing for us in this window
