West Ham United host Luton Town in a Premier League clash this afternoon with contrasting fortunes at stake. This match also marks the final home game for manager David Moyes before Julen Lopetegui takes the helm.

The Hammers are enduring a wretched spell of late, winless in their last six games across all competitions. Their European campaign ended in disappointment, and their slump in domestic form has left them out of European contention next season.

This match serves as a farewell for Moyes, who will step down after the game. West Ham’s home record has been a major concern, with only two wins in 2024. Therefore to sign off with a win would be a welcome parting gift for the outgoing manager.

Luton Town, on the other hand, are battling for Premier League survival. They sit three points from safety with only two games remaining. A win would be a massive boost to their hopes of staying up.

West Ham’s recent form paints a bleak picture (DWLLDL in the Premier League, LLDLDL! in all competitions). Luton, however, broke a three-game losing streak with a draw against Everton last week (LWLLLD).

West Ham will be without midfield loanee “Kalamity” Phillips (calf strain), defenders Dinos Mavropanos (knock) and Nayef Aguerd (ankle). Lucas Paqueta is expected to recover from a knock, while Danny Ings, Maxwel Cornet, and James Ward-Prowse could see playing time after being absent last week.

This match carries different weights for both teams. West Ham will be looking to send Moyes off on a positive note and improve their home record. For Luton, it’s a crucial battle for survival, as they desperately need a win to keep their Premier League dreams alive.

Given both teams’ current form and priorities, a close encounter seems likely. West Ham’s defensive issues could be exposed, but their attacking talent might be enough to salvage a draw at the very least. However, such a result wouldn’t be ideal for Moyes’ farewell, and it would leave Luton fans anxiously awaiting the outcome of Nottingham Forest’s match later that evening.
