Reports is the Spanish media are reporting that West Ham are chasing La Liga boss Andoni Iraola to replace manager David Moyes should he depart at the end of the season.
The Rayo Vallecano manager was pursued by Leeds, earlier this season, as the first choice to replace Jesse Marsch, following an impressive 18 months in charge in Vallecas.
However the Basque manager, rejected a mid-season move, as he wanted to complete the term of his contract with Rayo.
Iraola guided Vallecano to an impressive mid table finish last season, in his first La Liga campaign at the in charge, alongside a run to the Copa del Rey semi final.
That positive form has continued at the beginning of 2022/23 with Rayo in the running for a European spot. Recent results have not been as kind and the club have slipped to relative mid-table obscurity.
For that reason I find it difficult to believe that West Ham would sanction a move for Iraola when there are far better candidates available.
A decision from the Spanish club is expected in the coming weeks, with Iraola’s Rayo contract expiring in June. It is also understood that his former club Athletic Club are also interested.
As per reports from Cadena SER, West Ham will also make an offer to Iraola, as part of their summer plan to replace David Moyes. Reading between the lines this particular rumour does have the whiff of agents trying to get a new contract for their client.
Journalist Paco Delgado said. “West Ham want Iraola. Rayo want to sit down with him this week, to renew his deal, but the Premier League side want him, based on his record at Rayo.”
