West Ham Back Pedalling | 11th Hour Change Of Target

Buyers’ remorse usually kicks in after the contract is signed. It is a well known phenomenon in all kinds of sales roles- houses, cars, luxury goods- you name it, people suddenly try and change their mind the morning after they’ve committed. Usually for no valid reason other than a massive case of cold feet. It appears that West Ham are in full – on back-pedalling mode themselves over the signing of Dutchman Brian Brobbey. And they haven’t even got close to committing yet. Exactly as aired in Claret and Hugh earlier this morning (‘Is attacking prospect ready for the Premier League’) it seems that somewhere inside London stadium there’s a massive rethink taking place.

It may well be that new head of recruitment Kyle Macaulay has arrived and pressed ‘pause’ whilst he runs his own analysis – or an 11th hour change of target with the new recruitment regime flexing their own muscles in the last week of the window.

It may simply be part of the negotiating tactic by West Ham who seek to get the player on their terms – with an option to buy rather than a mandatory clause.

However fans will fear it may be of course the customary West Ham transfer ‘shadow boxing’ that ends up with an epic fail in the January window with no new striker coming through the front door until the summer. Jarrod Bowen’s promised return to fitness in February may make the club far more reluctant – surprise surprise- to part with any cash.

West Ham already destroyed one striker’s enthusiasm after encouraging Jhon Duran to agitate for a move- and then heading for the hills when the price got uncomfortably high. With Brobbey reportedly in London this weekend, hopefully they have learned from the Duran saga and don’t repeat the same mistake.

Id give rashford a chance. Loan till the summer if he has the effect like lingard then happy days…

    • Matt Palmer says:

We need a number 9 and Rashford isn’t a hold the ball up player.

Plus everyone knows the money he is on and it will destabilise the team just as Potter is rebuilding some team togetherness.

I genuinely think he is the wrong option.

  • Ken Brickell says:

As I see it, the problem is with the fans. As long as they keep coughing up for season tickets, Sullivan doesn’t give a ****. Come next season, do not buy a season ticket until you know it will be worth it. Hopefully, that will get rid of Sullivan.

  • Chris harber says:

This is West ham, we will end up with nothing, bcoz we have Danny Ings, 5 goals in 65 appearances, Rodriguez, Alvarez, cresswell, coufal, mavropanos and soucek

  • Phil Baker says:

Kretinsky’s Westham investment is his most precarious deal with Sullivan an old amateur meddler mishandling every football related issue . Kretinsky needs to buy out Sullivan now so that Westham can modernize and compete with the myriad of upwardly mobile teams .

  • Lee says:

Does anyone else get fed up reading this crap .. players who West Ham are close to signing … then don’t ….. come on it’s really ridiculous We shouldn’t publish this until the player actually signs … makes me 🤢🤮🤮 we seem like a bunch of clowns in the premiership

    • Chris harber says:

Totally agree, but understand why we leak who we want, because we hope someone else steps in.
We offered 57m for Duran, bcoz PSG had just offered 64m
Sullivan would have a heart attack if any of these bids got accepted

  • Tim says:

Would rather we go for a 6 mth loan now and in the summer go all in for someone like Delap or Giminez. Need to start thinking about the long term and stop with all the panic buys.

  • mark wiggins says:

We need a striker but not Silva I would be fuming if we go for Silva . I don’t know this is typical Sullivan unless we have a better target . The worse thing we can do is not sign a good striker , is Brobbey any good?

  • Ian says:

I wouldn’t trust Sullivan to buy a bag of crisps without trying to knock 20p off

    • B says:

Maybe Sullivan would want to ‘borrow’ the packet of crisps, with a promise to buying at a later date, then licking each crisp until they are a soggy mess ? 😂

  • Al Campbell says:

Sullivan dont want to spend any money this window. He’s banking on the return of Bowen and Summerville to see us through.
The obvious lack of ambition is really worrying. Until he’s gone and Brady too, West Ham will never take the next stride forward

    • Chris harber says:

He knows if we beat Ipswich, Leicester, Southampton and spurs, we are safe, we could probably bank on staying up with 32pts

  • John Ayris says:

I’ve been looking through a news aggregator and reports are that Brobbey is still in London. There must still be some interest in him from someone…

  • John says:

So you don’t know they are back peddling then. Just one of many considerations, but it makes a better headline. And you’re supposed to be ITK?????????

  • John Ayris says:

The thing is that when Steidten recommended Gyokeres it’s difficult to understand why Moyes didn’t fancy him at under £20M. Ditto with Duran, people questioned his attitude but not his injury record, age or ability. They were both plainly different class.

But those sorts of players soon cost more than we’re able to afford if we balls things up as we nearly always do. The normal fare is that they are knocking on a bit, or they’ve not scored much of late, or they are a bit of a sick note, and that’s what we’re facing now.

We make our own desperation and it costs us dear.

    • Chris harber says:

      Difficult to understand?
This is the club that were offered Jamie vardy for a million quid

  • Mick Bering says:

just look at the chaos since stiedten departed Its going from some sense and order to the sublime and ridiculous mr Sullivan has no feelings respect or care for us fans who are the core of this club This situation will quickly deteriorate with him back in control of all future transfers

    • Annette Markham says:

haha stability Steindten ????? flaunted his authority got 2 managers out bought a load of rubbish for far too much money it was steindten that wanted fulkrug and not duran

      • Dave ⚒️ says:

Steidten wanted Duran, Villa kept changing the goal posts, they never wanted to sell, he only done the crossed hammers sign to get a new deal and pay rise, Fullkrug was a panic buy at the end of the transfer window, as usual

  • Bill Ryan says:

I was under the impression brobbey was wanted by potter surely if so the club has to back him

  • weathamsteve says:

I understand the hesitation but in reality you can always find a reason not to buy a player. If we have seen something in thhis guy,you won’t know til you try him.We have had bigger named players fail in the West Ham shirt and wasted a lot of money on them.I find the lesser known players give their heart and soul into a club they want to be at.

  • M B says:

In a league where average strikers score for fun 1 goal this season speaks for itself. Why this move wasn’t questioned before is strange, but somehow I think this is just Sullivan meddling again with his Del Boy way of doing business. It’s obvious we aren’t going to sign anyone

  • Timbo says:

Big difference between Duran and Brobbey is that one is proven at this level and one is struggling in the Dutch league. If the new team really rate him then yes we should try and get him but if he ain’t good enough you are stuck with a player worth alot less than you paid for him with no budget to go and get anyone else.

    • Alan says:

Problem with this approach is if we wait for them to be proven they are either hugely expensive or out of our reach as they will want bigger than West Ham. We couldn’t get someone like Mbeumo or Cunha now that they are proven. They’ll want top 6 only now and will cost upwards of £60m.

Even one we could get now, Liam Delap, how much do you reckon he will cost this coming summer?

Getting someone with potential while their stocks low isn’t always a bad option. Every transfer carries a degree of risk.

      • Selwyn James says:

I’ve heard Harland and Jude Bellingham are joining us, oh sorry everyone just woken up from a dream.

  • Pat says:

Nothing to do with the players ability whatsoever nope purely down to Sullivan not wanted to spend any money and of course the player has no association with Salthouse or Silkman. This to most seasoned fans no how the little man operates….i hope we do not get him the Spuds Forest Gooners get him he bangs in the goals then listen to the fool backtrack about how close we were to getting a deal done but his agent was unreasonable blah blah blah.

    • Alan says:

If that happens you can guarantee down the line it will be said not signing Brobbey was Macaulay or Potter’s fault somehow. And C&H will be the one pushing that story via information received from their TOP SOURCE.

The same way all the current problems are attributed to Steidten.

  • Mavded says:

Kyle Macaulay hey boss i’ve done my analysis and yes Brobbey is the man..ok i’ll run it upstairs to Mr Sullivan….What has he said? he said no as apparently your analysis did not include who his agent is and unless it is Silkman or Salthouse then he clearly is not the player we need….nope i think a thirty year old injury prone CHEAP loan is perfect for our needs…..so unless you pull your finger out and look into a players history and they have to be on Silkman and Salthouse books you will have to go…i did not employ someone to look outside of those circles and if you do it again you can follow Tim out the door

    • Dean says:

Exactly and anyone who thinks Macaulay will get his players now sulli is fully in charge is deluded. I’m certain we will end up with either Callum Wilson, silva or nobody. That is the level of our ambition, well at least this time all the publications that have berated steidten will have to actually point the finger at the true culprit.

  • Ant says:

Did we expect any different? Sulli hasn’t learned anything, will always operate this way.
While we the fans want to see investment and growth in the club, Sulli will prefer to see growth to his own wealth. If he took the interest on his “loan” to us and reinvested in the squad then maybe we might see the club heading in the right direction.
We simply cannot compete with Sulli owning the club. The lies and spin is pathetic and he takes us for mugs. We pay for the product of West Ham, it just isn’t value for money.

    • Phil says:

Absolutely correct and it gets inflamed with certain sites spouting all the excuses for Sullivan…….hopeless unless they are one of his cronies clients …..

  • mark wiggins says:

Look as long as we don’t go for Silva who offers nothing it’s cool if there is a better target . There is one but he will cost a cool 70 million
