West Ham beat Newcastle to promotion

MartinWest Ham Under 23’s finished off a great season by beating Newcastle Under 23’s at St James Park 2-1 in the Premier League 2 Play-Off Final to win promotion from division two to division one.

The Magpies went ahead in the nineteenth minute from a corner. It’s a deep delivery from the right, and left-back Kyle Cameron rises highest to head back across goal. Heardman is first to the header and taps in to make it 1-0.

West Ham drew level just before half-time as  Martinez scored for the Hammers, the Spaniard received a lovely pass from Dobson and smashes across the keeper to level for the Hammers!

In the second half, it was Martinez again! The Spaniard picked the ball up 25 yards from goal and smashes one into the bottom corner. Unstoppable!

  1. Great news, well done to the boys.Lets see how they mix it with the Chelski & Citeh academy lads next season. It will be interesting to see how good they are.

  2. well done guys you done us proud

  3. Why on earth does Bilic not give Martinez a chance in the first team ,we have had to suffer Calleri week in & week out when Martinez is knocking them in for fun…I love Bilic but like Allardyce he does not give youth a chance…

  4. Because he was on loan at oxford for a start & though he has potential there is a big difference between scoring for u23s and playing in the PL.
Its easy to call for youth but im not so sure if our job or neck was on the line we would be so free and easy picking the kids for the pl.
For a start they have to be good enough and do many of us know that they are.We dont see them day in day out.

  5. Great result boys, you have showed what hard work and playing as a team is all about COYI !!!

  6. Agree T Man. I seem to remember the one occasion BS gave the kids a go it ended badly against Nottm Forest. It is great to see your own young players come through but these days the squads are bigger. Clubs are less willing to take a risk- that’s the way it is.

  7. Martinez is turning in to Elliot Lee Mk2.I can remember some fans going mental that Hippo Head should pick him when he was scoring for the kids.Saying he was ready for the Prem.Where is he now,Barnsley isnt it 😁
To be fair we aint had many youngsters to shout about for years really.None of the ones fans have wanted in the team have gone off elsewhere and proved the decision to release them wrong.I mean Stanislas is doing well but it has taken him ages to build his career up and get back in the Prem & i think if Bournemouth got relegated there wouldnt exactly be a queue of Prem teams trying to sign him up.

  8. Yeah best thing is to keep it in perspective. Remember the fuss over Freddie Sears when he came on & scored against Blackburn was it? I know about the fuss cos I made some of it! The signs look promising with one or two of this side. If they are good enough they will break through but these days not many seem to do it very young. Patience is a virtue find it where you can – seldom in a woman, never in a football fan! As my old Gran didn’t use to say…

    • Lol after reading that last sentence i think you started on the happy pills early today 64 😁
Yeah its very difficult for youngsters to break into Prem teams these days. There are a few teams that are the exception but in the main most managers will pick tried and tested rather than taking a punt on a kid when there is a senior player available.
In a way i understand why managers dont risk them if senior players are available, they are only ever a few defeats from the tin tack so why would they.

  9. Martinez has not played for almost 10 weeks because of injury and was on loan contract to Reading so Slav couldn’t have played him if he’d wanted to.
