West Ham boo claims denied

Manchester United supporter Adam McKola who hosts a podcast and Youtube channel caused a storm on social media by claiming that West Ham supported booed players as they took the knee yesterday at the London Stadium.

McKola who was watching the match from home on Sky Sports publish a video from TV coverage which appeared to pick up booing when the players took the knee.

That claim was completely denied by everyone who was at the game, supporters in both stands, stewards and club personnel all said there were no boos and that fans were chanting: ” Come on you Irons!”

The London Stadium became the first Premier League ground to welcome back 2,000 supporters yesterday and all eyes were on West Ham after arch-rivals Millwall booed players taking the knee.   The Daily Express briefly ran a story because it wasn’t true.

Ian Abrahams (Moose) wrote via his Twitter account: “Contrary to some comments, West Ham didn’t boo when players took the knee pre-match.”

I think Adam should now accept his mistake and delete his fake news tweet.

  1. When Antonio scored his fourth goal at Norwich – the ‘crowd’ booed then. Strange added background effect for TV coverage. Played this back on TV a few times and sound was there each time. Could it be that the wrong noise was added to this game?

Test of having 2000 attending game seemed to go OK. Some have mentioned we could easily go 20000. But we do need to test the system before expansion. Very disappointing to see a couple of men, who should be old enough to know better, masks off and screaming defiance. This might spoil it for everyone. Needs to be 100% safe.

    • I was there and heard no boos. As someone who lived next to the Charles Bros and played footy with Clive from the age of 6, I welcome BLM and am pleased most of the racist fans are gone due to politicsl arguement and integration and rock against racism in the 80d etc. Unfortunately, a few remain hence the need for BLM.

      • Well said @Doug Beesley – I remember in the 1980’s some “fans” booed George Parris when he first broke into the team and I had a black friend (sadly passed on now) who was a Man U fan and told me of the racist abuse he received when he went to Upton Park

For that reason players like the aforementioned George Parris and Leroy Rosenior were my heroes for the role that they played in paving the way for future black players at West Ham (the Charles’ brothers were before my time)

While there is still Racism – even if it is much reduced – we need BLM and anything that unites

  2. Taking the knee is making everything more decisive.. BLM is an Extremist politically motivated group which has no place in the football world….I am 56 and yes I’ve heard racist comments at west ham but in the last 10 to 15 years I think life in general things have been so much better…still no room for racism but taking the knee is not the answer…

  3. Probably thought he had to deflect from the fact that though his team won -thanks largely to var thet are probably one of the worst teams I have seen in many a year. Sorry to say West Ham deserve all they got in the end. Man utd should have been finished by half time.

  4. Maybe his a millwall supporter and as dumb as they are? No boos and let’s be honest the right wing express which is great like the mail for stand in toilet paper are about as truthful as trump is in USA or bojo his mate in UK.

    • I was on a West Ham Facebook site last night where a West Ham fan, after first saying that he was not racist, asked why West Ham supporters at the game didn’t boo.

  5. No room for racism in sport. No room for politics.
I watch football because I love the game. I can forget real life, enjoy being tribal and yell at the television (I can only get to a couple of live matches a year). My children retreat to their bedrooms, the dog cringes, my wife rolls her eyes. Football is a cathartic.
I do not need reminding that the world is divided; that there are people who think pronouns are more important than jobs. Go to one knee in the dressing room and come out ready to play.

  6. Sad to read some of the comments above. Shows how far society still has to go before equality for all is the reality. The dead policemen comment is moronic and completely misses the point.

  7. I thought the new idea adopted for the Milwall/QPR game worked well. A bit of symbolism that everyone can get behind, (pre salute obviously) instead of the racist american politics that seem to have been adopted whilst crowds were away.
However, Can anyone believe that we can move forward when so many are trying to fight racism with more racism.
