West Ham could be set to receive their first solid offer for Lucas Paquetá following the unofficial confirmation that the Brazilian has been cleared of the betting charges brought against him by the FA.
Brazilian giants Flamengo have long been linked with a move for the Hammers playmaker, but up until now, they were believed to lack the financial clout to make a serious approach.
However, that may be about to change. Yesterday, Flamengo completed the sale of Brazil international Wesley to Roma in a deal worth €25 million plus €5 million in extras.
Wesley was part of the Flamengo side that reached the last 16 of this year’s Club World Cup, a run that reportedly boosted the club’s finances by at least €40 million.
With money now in the bank, Flamengo could finally table an offer that West Ham might find tempting. Their previous attempts to sign Paquetá were limited to loan deals—one of which included a €20 million option to buy.
Last week, a London Stadium source told Claret & Hugh that the widely rumoured £30 million valuation for Paquetá was “far too low” and that the board would only consider offers in the region of £60–70 million.
If Flamengo are serious this time, they’ll at least have the money to make a testing transfer offer. That said, recent comments from the club seem to hint of a slim possibility that The Paq-Man could remain in East London which in itself would be no bad thing.
I think if we keep him he might just put in a show for us this year and increase his value back up where he was at before. I’d say to the Paqman give us one more year, showcase your talent to the world and next season a big club might come in for you and you can go with our blessing.
We are just as bad at selling players as we are at buying them. Kudus for £50m when he was under contract and there was an £85m buyout clause was a joke, we should have controlled that situation but instead folded pathetically. I also remember a certain Dimitri Payet, at the time one of the brightest stars in Europe, he decides he wants to leave after signing a new 5 year contract and only wants to go to Marseilles, who can only afford £25m for a player worth £50m of anybody’s money. What happens? He goes to Marseilles for £25m as if we had no say in the transfer at all.
I still feel like we sold Kudus too cheap to spuds so definitely don’t want to sell Paq on the cheap too. He hasn’t been his best for a while but he does have quality. We have got plenty of players that arent good enough quality, can we try harder to sell them off instead of our best players. I know they’re smaller fees and no one wants them but selling the crown jewels and replacing them with journeymen hasn’t been working for us
Agree with Mick.
Be great to see him play for us without the FA charges hanging over his head. What a relief for him and he will play without any shackles.
A breath of fresh air I feel.
Apart from the fact we need him.
We can’t be the joke club that sells him for a poxy £30m. We need to stick to our guns that he goes nowhere unless they are offers over £60m plus. I’d like him to stay and start producing personally, but under Potter there is no guarantee of that, the way we are playing atm.
Keep the Paqman for christ sake Why do we seem content to keep weakening our team After all what’s happened weve stuck by him He owes us Imn sure the manager should be talking to him with convincing plans for the future of the club and his own The board are just showing no ambition and weakness by selling him Do something positive The club and fans need an uplift right now Give us some belief something to build on
Listen without the scandal in his head Paqueta will be back to his best . Happy to keep him he’s world class on his day . If we sell it’s got to be a minimum of 5o million upwards
