West Ham have wasted no time in appointing Graham Potter’s successor, officially unveiling Nuno Espirito Santo as the club’s new head coach.
As reported earlier, the former Nottingham Forest boss took training today, with the club confirming that he is currently being assisted by academy staff while his backroom team is finalised.
Nuno said of his new role:
“I am very pleased to be here and very proud to be representing West Ham United. My objective is to work hard to get the very best from the team and ensure that we are as competitive as we possibly can be. The work has already started and I am looking forward to the challenge that is ahead.”
The announcement was short and to the point, reflecting the hurried nature of a decision that many expected would not be confirmed until next week. Graham Potter took yesterdays press conference ahead of the Everton game and whilst he was under pressure, there was little evidence that he would be replaced only hours later.
Credit, though, to Nuno for getting stuck in immediately, even before securing the arrival of his first-team coaches. Unlike the board’s stance earlier this week, the new manager has clearly not written off the upcoming fixtures against Everton and Arsenal.
Welcome, Nuno.

He didn’t play JWP when he was on loan at Forest.
Which is a big plus for us Hammers fans!
Not sure about this move by the board, my first thought was we haven’t got the players to play his way. That aside, if he keeps us in the Premiership he’s done his job. Mid table finish is a very good season, challenging for Europe he has pulled the rabbit out of the hat. Good luck to you Nuno I hope players and supporters back you.
I don’t trust this man. I think we’ll have to sack him by the New Year holidays. I’m not a fan of Graham Potter, but I don’t believe Nuno Espírito Santo is the man West Ham needs right now. Forget about integrating young talent into the first team now. And I don’t expect results. I think this is a manager who will go through the full path of a loser. He destroyed Wolverhampton. He even lost to Loser Potter at his home stadium. He will leave the Premier League when he passes through the teams that trust him. And he will be sacked by each of them.
Potter plainly needed to go. Nuno was equally plainly the best available given that we were never going to buy anyone out of a contract. It wasn’t overly drawn out given that Nuno’s departure from Forest was a complicating factor. In before Everton and Arsenal is the right way to go about it.
Welcome aboard boss and lets look forward to better times.
A new beginning and hopefully Nuno gives the youth a chance to prove themselves in the coming months…i am sure JWP and Rodriguez days are numbered thankfully..Welcome Nuno do us proud
Well, the Everton match will be brutally boring as two “park the bus” managers butt heads.
But both managers will probably, hopefully, save their clubs from relegation! Would you prefer relegation or boring?
“Potter expected to take charge of Everton vs West Ham”
I guess it’s all happening too fast for your fingers to keep up at the moment, eh Gonzo! That’s fine, we understand, just too much excitement for all of us at the moment. It’s obviously taken many of us by surprise. I wonder if it was Daniel Kretinsky finally putting his two bob’s worth in that got Brady and Sullivan to pull their fingers out?
Let’s get behind our new manager 100% and be the 12/13th player on the pitch. Credit to our owners as I thought this was going to drag on for a couple more weeks. This has made my day/weekend as I was dreading Everton. Let’s hope Nuno kicks JWP out of the team immediately. I can’t stop smiling…. COYI⚒️⚒️⚒️⚒️
Come on Nuno. Just when you think West Ham can’t suprise you anymore.
When GP was appointed lots of people said he would be a ‘great fit’ for us. Well he is gone, turned out he wasn’t such a ‘great fit’ after all. I’ve no idea if Nuno will turn us around or is a good fit or not. I’m sure Nuno can not be as bad as GP though.
Portuguese version of David Moyes so at least we won’t get relegated!
