With the board about to act and Lopetegui about to exit the club, the focus is more on personnel rather than Premier League statistics and infamy. However, lest the board consider giving Lopetegui more time, they need to consider this – West Ham are in danger of making PL history this December as the worst ever performers in the league’s history. It makes for sombre reading.
I am indebted to the people at football365.com for the compilation of their report which details this dreadful record which is within Hammers’ grasp:
“The Premier League calendar year table makes for particularly miserable reading as only Everton (33) and Wolves (27) have fewer points than West Ham (34) of clubs who have spent all of 2024 in the top flight.
But in terms of goals conceded, West Ham are the worst by some margin with 71 put past Alphonse Areola and Lukasz Fabianski in 33 games.
The Premier League record for most goals conceded in a calendar year is 80, set by Steve Bruce and Eddie Howe’s Newcastle in 2021, so the Hammers must engender some sudden defensive improvement against Wolves, Bournemouth, Brighton, Southampton and Liverpool to avoid breaking it.”
So, ten more goals in the next five games and West Ham will be consigned to the Premier League History Books as the team with thehighest number of goals ever conceded in a calendar year.
Let that sink in for a while.
Of course, Moyes must take his share of the blame (attention all of those ‘be careful what you wished for” ignoramuses) but how is it possible to justify keeping Lopetegui when his record is 27 goals conceded in 14?
Factor in the £90 million spent this summer on replacing 3 out of 4 of the back four and the answer is simple – it isn’t.
A defense , midfield and offense that do not work together are doomed in the modern game . LOSEpetegui hasn’t grasped this fact and never will . It really doesn’t matter how good his squad is , he’ll always fail .
Boss should have gone before or during international break far too many players are lazy won’t run or track back we’re conceding far too many goals and losing against teams we should be winning easy our front players are to slow or championship players only others are being booked for fun I believe that money spent should have gone on experience premier league players like Duran of villa
It’s no surprise to us fans, sitting in deep is as bad a ploy as you can have in the modern game, the football equivalent of Russian roulette.
If you can’t defend deep, better to play long diagonal balls forward to a target man and have enough about him to win the second ball.
We are too easy and open to play against and are bad in transition with a back line frequently exposed when the ball is turned over, we don’t press with any intensity, we don’t sprint back into shape when we lose the ball, there is a general lethargy about our passing in possession that makes us easy to play against, we also lack any cohesion as a team because our manager and captain are not forceful enough and have bad communication skills.
Hopefully we sign a manager who can adapt the system, let’s not even go there with the inverted full backs.. to the players he has and turn the ship around, I feel we have a great squad it just needs to turn into a great team COYI
The other issue was JL stating he wants 2 players for every position but doesn´t count young players as part of any duo.
Its a myth that you need 2 for every position. In 22/23 City won the EPL & Champions League. After the January window excluding the keepers they only had 16 players of 20 years or older & of those one was long term injured and another was Kalvin Philips!
To fill out 20 outfield places with senior pros you end up with journeymen such as Rodrigues
It might be a false report but there´s Real Madrid interest in Aguerd. Why are they not interested in the supposed upgrade Kilman?
Is it because JL blew 40 million on a player that is not an improvement?
Well done Sniden and Lopetegui and we are not hlf way through the season yet
