West Ham United have confirmed that Academy forward Gideon Kodua has joined Luton Town on a permanent deal following his initial loan spell.

The 21-year-old winger made the switch to Kenilworth Road at the start of the 2025/26 season and has clearly impressed enough for the Hatters to take up their option to buy.

Kodua becomes the latest graduate of West Ham’s famed Academy of Football to depart in search of regular first-team football.

Claret & Hugh reached out to our top London Stadium source to uncover the financial details behind the move. When asked whether West Ham could expect a decent return, we were told:

“It’s okay, but not amazing. There are lots of add-ons.”

Add-Ons and Sell-On Clause Protect West Ham’s Interests

While the initial fee may not cause much excitement in the short term, the club have protected themselves with several performance-based clauses.

These include personal milestones, potential promotion bonuses should Luton rise up the table, and a sell-on clause in the event of a future transfer windfall.

Kodua showed flashes of promise in claret and blue, most notably at youth level, when he captained the side to FA Youth Cup glory in 2023.

Thanks Sean, some real insights here.

    Why not selling everyone else.

    It is very worrying
The young players we have let go, we could have built a youthful team from and been really a force to reckon with in a couple of years. Instead we have brought them on to see them leave for free or a minimal fee
Something is wrong in our academy and the running of the club and needs fixing urgently
We need fresh owners in and quick or we are just going to be the average championship club if we are not very careful
I am a massive fan and always will be, but am so saddened to what is happening to my club whom I have supported for over 50 years
I know we are not going to win every match, but when I used to go to Upton Park, we used to come away feeling that we had seen a very entertaining game, even if we lost,we put a shift in,and you were happy with the performance

This club is run by people who don’t understand football and its supporters. So we sell a striker who has been scoring in the under 21’s and is carrying on with that in Luton first team. Ok it’s a big jump from that to Premier league, was he given an opportunity to show that. No! On top of that we are now saying we need to buy 2 more strikers, while supporters are missing out on seeing one of their own come through the ranks. You couldn’t write it. Are you sure we have someone in charge?

He’s doing okay at a League One side. He’s 21 and wasn’t ripping up trees at West Ham. He ain’t the next coming!
