Just when you thought West Ham’s transfer news couldn’t get any more chaotic, along comes a tale of musical chairs in the market.
Not content with the arrivals of Southampton’s Mateus Fernandes and Monaco midfielder Soungoutou Magassa, it now appears the Hammers are lining up a third midfielder.
Transfer twist
And the twist? The new target is also being chased by a club we’re already negotiating with over another midfielder.
Reports claim Bayer Leverkusen have joined West Ham in the race for Quinten Timber, the highly-rated Feyenoord midfielder. Timber is said to be Leverkusen’s top candidate to replace Aleix García — the very player West Ham are trying to sign from the Bundesliga side.
So, to untangle the situation: West Ham could end up signing Timber. But if they don’t, and instead land García, then Leverkusen are likely to swoop for Timber themselves.
In short, if one deal happens, the other almost certainly follows. You couldn’t make it up — and if you did, nobody would believe you!

Not to be negative but I cant see us pulling either off tbh. Hope I’m wrong
Typical West ham and dullivan all talk but as usual no action.
Really excited to see us finally begin to get some exciting targets in, but still waiting for official confirmation as this is West Ham! Ironic to see if we also end up with Garcia or Timber as that would transform our midfield. Links to Hayden Hackney still persist. My only concern is where would that leave Freddie after his 2 brilliant loan spells and one of the few players this season who deserves a starting spot? And what about George Earthy who played a huge role in helping Bristol City reach the playoffs, who made 3 PL appearances last season, and has just returned to training after injury? Surely they have earned their chances to play first team football here this season?
Also new links for Paqueta with Aston Villa tonight. I think we still need his creativity especially with our new more dynamic midfield and after losing Kudus and would hate to see another big talent leave just as we are finally starting to rebuild with Somerville and Guilherme also due to return.
A statement of intent would be to sign both. Especially if paqueta leaves.
Paqeta is going to Villa isnt he Will be interesting to see how much we actually spend at the end of all this and how much ends up in Sullivans pocket Dont let it be forgotten we havnt spent the 17 million surplus from the Kudus sale as yet
Such big pockets! Do you really think that David Sullivan sits in an office with a few safes full of cash?
Get real, Mick.
Rich men have no cash. Even when they die all they leave us is alone. Daniel Kretinski only takes home a minimum wage. Any more and they have to pay tax. Rich men don’t pay tax.
Such is the way of things at West Ham Gonzo, I don’t think I will pay any attention to this one until Fernandes and Magassa have had their medical’s, and we have confirmation all is well. Hopefully, by then it will be clear as to whether West Ham are after Garcia AND Timber or just one or the other.
