French and Italian media sources are reporting that West Ham have shown interest in signing Kevin Danso from Lens. However, Italian club Atalanta is currently leading the race for the Austrian international.

Lens is open to releasing the former Southampton defender if their valuation is met. They expect a transfer fee of around €25 million for Danso. The defender, who has previously had interest from the likes of Bayern Munich and Napoli, chose to renew his contract with the Ligue 1 side instead.

This summer, Lens has already bolstered their defence. They have signed Hervé Koffi from Charleroi and Malang Sarr from Chelsea, which means they may be open to offers for Danso, despite him being a key player for the squad.

Though he was born in Austria and represents their national team, Danso spent the first ten years of his childhood growing up in the England, and has represented both Reading and MK Dons at youth level.

In an interview last year, Danso alluded to his decision to choose Austria over England; “I arrived in England when I was six years old. I could have played for England. I lived there for 10 years before going to Augsburg. And it’s strange, sometimes I feel more English than anything else, but sometimes more Austrian or more Ghanaian as well. I am happy to have this multiculturality, it allows me to be who I am,”
