West Ham are ready to challenge Inter Milan for the signing of Bologna striker Santiago Castro in the upcoming transfer window.
That’s according to Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, which reports that the Hammers have a serious interest in the 20-year-old forward. Castro is considered to have a bright future, and on initial inspection, he could be a perfect fit for West Ham boss Graham Potter’s system.
Castro has been a standout performer in Serie A this season after joining Bologna in January last year. The Argentine has firmly established himself in the starting lineup, stepping up to fill the attacking void left by Joshua Zirkzee.
Much like West Ham under Potter, Bologna play with three central defenders, and Castro appears to have the ability to either run in behind a defence or drop deep and link play.
Bologna took something of a punt on the 6ft Castro by paying Argentine club Vélez Sarsfield €7.00m. The youngster was not particularly prolific in the Primera División but he has found his goalscoring touch since moving to Italy 12 month ago.
So far this campaign, Castro has impressed with seven goals and four assists, making him one of the most exciting young strikers in Italy. Unfortunately for West Ham, that also means he’s attracted the attention of some pretty big hitters—namely Inter Milan.
Inter will be looking to replace former Hammer Marko Arnautovic, who earlier this week scored an incredible 25-yard volley. Unfortunately, we can’t post it here for copyright reasons, but if you haven’t seen it yet, go check it out—absolutely incredible!
no money so lets accept it will be Callum Wilson ignore any other story on a striker
“Much like West Ham under Potter, Bologna play with three central defenders, and Castro appears to have the ability to either run in behind a defence or drop deep and link play.”
Did you get lost in that statement, Gonzo?
I’m assuming it’s meant to mean that his current side are set up in a manner similar to how Potter has things at West Ham so he could find familiarity there to hopefully settle in quickly but it’d be like going “The price of a beer at the London Stadium is pretty steep, but Castro can get in behind the opposition or drop deeper.” for all the relevance of the opener to the closing of it…
Good point, although it depends if Castro is in the chair!?! 😀
Hopefully he’s a bigger success than Zirkzee.
Not made much of an impression at Man Utd who were talking about moving him on.
