West Ham are chasing La Liga star Yunus Musah according to Spanish sources. Musah plays for Valencia but came through Arsenal’s academy.
At this point I should probably hold my hands up and declare bias on this player. We’ve already featured Musah in theses pages and for good reason. . .he looks exceptional.
USA International Musah represented England at youth level but chose to wear the stars and stripes of his birth nation. Having looked closely at the New Yorker during the past couple of weeks, I’ve come to the conclusion that he’s perfect for West Ham.
The 20-year-old played 38 La Liga games, but lost the trust of manager Ruben Baraja towards the end of the season. His frustrations were summed up with a red card on the final day of the season, with survival on the line.
Relevo states that he is one of two options to be sold this summer, and that West Ham have asked about his availability. The loss of form and the fact he still has plenty of interest on the market are motivating factors for Valencia. His price tag is around €25m.
Perfect for West Ham
Musah is an athletic box to box midfielder who seems perfectly adapted to the Premier League. The fact that he’s been through an English academy and lived in the country should mean he’d settle without fuss.
He has the physical qualities which should allow him to thrive in a David Moyes system. He has an eye for goal, travels well with the ball and is not afraid to put his foot in and tackle.
I read somewhere that he only plays for USA because his mother gave birth to him while she was on holiday in America. Grew up in and played for England. Obviously never backed himself to make it to the England senior team? Hats off to whoever in the USA knew he’d been born in the USA though. An excellent bit of poaching from their point of view.
