West Ham fans are likely to have an endless stream of ‘new striker links’ to contemplate, digest, ignore, discount or occasionally get excited about between now and the January transfer window. Already the stories start, suggesting ‘West Ham are circling’ for players planning to move on from their employers if deemed surplus to requirements.

With a new manager just a week in situ, I’d be surprised if West Ham are ‘circling’ for anybody. “Scouting” – maybe.

Today’s offering is Manchester United’s “struggling star”  Joshua Zirkzee. Apparently, according to teamtalk.com the out of favour Dutchman is the subject of their article:

“Struggling Man Utd star set to leave in January as Everton, West Ham circle – sources”

..With their rationale being that: “West Ham United are among clubs set to be kept informed about his situation, TEAMtalk can reveal.

Failing under Ruben Amorim: Joshua Zirkzee

West Ham previously assessed him during David Moyes’ time at the club, and both they and Everton are expected to be in the market for additional attacking options in the new year”

Which doesn’t amount to much, apart from West Ham need a striker and Manchester United will have a forward to sell. He’s not even an out and out striker, in any case, being more of a ten / nine hybrid. So for that reason alone I’d give this a big thumbs down. 2/10 on the rumour meter. And only that much because Manchester United paid £36.5 million for Zirkzee so presumably he’d be available at a discount.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.
