West Ham United are on the brink of securing a £37 million deal for Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran, according to Italian outlet AreaNapoli.

The Colombian forward, who impressed during the Copa America, has been identified as a key target for Hammers boss Julen Lopetegui. With the club in need of attacking reinforcements, Duran is seen as the ideal candidate to bolster their forward line.

The 21-year-old has shown glimpses of his talent at Villa Park but has found opportunities limited behind Ollie Watkins. Now seeking regular first-team football, Duran is eager to make the move to east London.

West Ham’s attacking options have been under scrutiny, with the futures of Michail Antonio and Danny Ings uncertain. The potential arrival of Duran would significantly strengthen their frontline.

As negotiations between the two clubs reach their final stages, West Ham fans will be eagerly anticipating the official confirmation of this exciting transfer

Paolo Di Canio was a hothead when Harry Redknapp bought him for the Hammers. He turned out pretty good!

  • Kip says:

Believe it when I see it ….nothing I’m afraid has come to fruition on here lately…with respect its just stories from rags all over the world ….bound to get one right soon …if you throw enough s* some is bound to stick in the end ….lost quite a bit of confidence on this site now….way to many posts that have no chance of happening….quality rather than quantity i would prefera …imo ..sorry

We need to get this done, fits our profile and will get better with game time. Money well spent in my view.

This one always did seem more than just a name plucked out of mid air like most linked players do.

It looks like his contract runs to June 2028 will be why Villa are asking what they are for him, his contract length and having played premiership games is the reason why he’s worth substantially more than what Villa paid for him. (£18M including add ons)

Villa wanted £40M always appeared a gambit that would be worked down from, it’s likely that some agreement will be reached with more rather than less add ons.

What chance has he really had to displace Watkins ? I always thought this signing to be likely because I always thought it likely that Villas wheeling and dealing involved moving him on.

If he’s happy to sacrifice playing champions league to come to us and play regularly that’s says something (positive in my eyes )

      Villa fan here,

Just like the other Villa fan I agree, he has the potential to be quite amazing, he has electric pace, incredibly strong and hits the ball hard. He had no chance displacing Watkins.

Villa will sell as like many clubs dealing with PSR.

He could be a super star in 2 years, when he comes off the bench the crowd always get excited, there is always a caveat, he is a hot head and can get booked in a minute of being on the pitch. If I was a West Ham fan I’d be optimistic if he was given a year with game time.

  • Sir Alf says:

Its 37 million euros which is £31 mill

    • Clickbait says:

The headline used states 37 million pounds, why would it be euros as we are buying him from Villa, not a European team! And being honest, its an article by Simon, so its definitely been copied and pasted from somewhere and details not checked in any way! Any kind of accuracy has never been his strong point as long as he gets to post some kind of gossip or speculation!

      • Martin Treasure says:

How I will laugh when we sign our new striker for exactly 37 million pounds..

        • Clickbait says:

Have we signed him for £37 million yet? It seems to me that at the prices Villa keep turning down, we should be looking elsewhere and shouldn’t be signing hum at all 😉

  • Lee Megs says:

As a Villa fan, Durán is the real deal. Given minutes he will score a lot of goals. He just wants to play but with Watkins banging in 40 goals and assists last season he had no chance. Very good player, will more than likely come back to bite us.The only bad point is his temperament and has a big attitude.

    • Martin Treasure says:

hi Lee, I’d agree but show me an ambitious 20 year old without an ‘attitude’! I’m quietly excited about this one actually coming together.

  • MarkJ says:

I thought we had already said £35 million was too much? So we have said YES at £37 Million. Doesn’t ring true.

    • Martin Treasure says:

Mark – checkout the Kilman negotiations, same language used (i.e. WHU not going over 35 mill) before the deal was finally done.

  • Kevlar says:

We can’t afford the finished star striker so a young hungry player will do for me ! We have to pay the going rate or buy has beens

    • Ian says:

If we believe the rumours on here, En Nesyri is available at a much lower price than Duran, and is proven at the highest level. Now we might not be able to persuade him to sign, but we can definitely afford him.

      • Bill says:

How many times have we made bids for en nesyri, its painful! He doesn’t want to come to England!

        • Ian says:

The comment was ‘we can’t afford the finished star striker’. But we obviously can.

  • Ian says:

How did he impress in the Copa America when he barely featured?
Plus I’m not sure how many of us are ‘eager’ to see this deal done.

  • daethblow says:

What an utterly ridiculous amount of money to waste on a player who we have no idea if he’ll ever be any good.
If this load of b*llox is true then we’ve really had our pants pulled down.
Totally astounded at this if true and what happened to the cheap ‘gems’ Steidten finds?
If this geezer was any good Villa would never sell him. Joke.

    • Morkus says:

Sometimes you have to speculate to accumulate, I’d rather have a young pup on the up than an old dog on the way down
Every new player is a gamble of some sort some you win like Kudus & Alverez some you lose like Ings & Phillips

    • mmp says:

ridiculous. b*llox. pants pulled. astounded. joke.

inspiring stuff, keep up the good work.

and may I say ‘thank you’ for keeping the comments just the ‘right’ side of the line. I really don’t like deleting or editing, everyone has strong feelings and this site allows you all to have a voice. I appreciate the effort to keep the language readable, its actually more entertaining and saves me reaching for the ‘delete’ key.M

Interesting you deleted my comment about Simon, it was a well constructed comment with no swearing and factual. Shame on you Martin

‘shame on me Martin’. Yes, you have my name, I don’t hide behind some shady anonymity when I post here.
If you decided to use your real name and a real e mail address, I might feel more inclined to view your insults with a degree of leniency. In a world where people’s personal data is being sold every second why on earth would anyone volunteer to make it available on a public website? again with the upmost respect to you Martin I don’t know you from Adam. If you think the growing voices of discontent about Simon will go away you really don’t know the West Ham fanbase. All the best Martin.

  • Paul Messina says:

LOL! I was thinking the same thing, I knew he didn’t play in more than one game in the Copa. Besides that, I’d rather see them gamble on a 20 year old with upside rather than some of these older injury prone or other risk strikers that have been mentioned that won’t have any resale value later on. If the gamble doesn’t pay off, at least we were thinking big and going for it.

    • Simon Barham says:

Last season, he scored 5 PL goals in the minutes played equiv. of 4.5 games .. 3 of those 5 goals were scored against Man City and Liverpool .. That’s impressive for a 20YO in a foreign league ..

  • keith astley says:

    Impressed during the Copa America.
He played 13 minutes as a sub but boy was he good in those 13 minutes!
