For a fleeting moment, when West Ham were 2-1 up against Brighton, I allowed myself a glance at the Premier League table. There we were, 14th. A position Graham Potter desperately needed to ease some of the mounting pressure on his shoulders.
Unfortunately, true to form, West Ham once again managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in less than eight chaotic minutes.
Instead of climbing away from danger, the Hammers and Potter now find themselves slumped in 17th—teetering just above the relegation zone. While there were flashes of energy and attacking intent, the harsh reality is that Potter is winless in seven and now firmly under the spotlight.
The Irons manager is running out of time and patience at The London Stadium, and whilst I don’t expect him to be sacked anytime soon, he is under pressure.
This late loss to the Seagulls can perhaps be put down to bad luck, after all it took a worldie to win the game. However, plucky losses never look good when they are sandwiched between poor results and performances.
Potter is fast running out of credit and time to build what he believes will be a decent Premier League side. Many speak of his time at Brighton and how he needs time to slowly create a team in his image.
Unfortunately for Potter, he is not buying himself that time because nothing encourages patience quite like a win and he’ll need one before the end of the season.
Enough of this. Potter has taken on qn awful squad and has improved them massively. Remember the performances/results before he took over? Getting smashed every week and looking absolutely clueless. He has clearly made massive improvements since he has taken over. We should have beaten Liverpool and Brighton, we beat Arsenal and performances have improved (unless you have the memory of a goldfish).
The simple truth is that the squad is rubbish. Yes Potter has made some mistakes but other managers might be able to get away with them if they have good players in the squad which can cover these errors. Potter has no such luxuries. Seriously, look at the squad he has inherited. Loom st the tactics he inherited. Are you all Seriously saying that he hasn’t improved our (awful) team. Of course he has. There’s limits to what he can do though. Give him time! Oh yeah, who else would want to take over if he gets the sack? No one would touch us with a barge pole.
There have been (obvious)statistical studies stating that guess what, the teams with the best players win games. Look at the Brighton team and look at ours. How many of our team would get into their team? Yup. Potter is rubbish!
No he isn’t. Ha e patience or you’ll just make things worse for us.
Actually I don’t know how he’s managed to install some discipline, tactical ability, enthusiasm and at time’s guile in a team of individual, aging and under performing mavericks whom, from an outsider’s perspective can’t wait to get away quick enough. Simply, we’re a very badly run club from Board level especially and the current squad of player’s, bar two or three are simply not good enough. It’s certainly very unlikely to change in the foreseeable future no matter how much money is spent in the summer. At least we’ve stopped getting tanked despite the presence of one of the worst central defenders ever to wear the shirt I despair every time he’s named in the starting eleven. The last two seasons have been forgettable and an utter waste of time, money and energy but ultimately it’s the West Ham way we should know better than to expect anything else!
Mark noble for manager that’s what I say, some who can inspire this lot to have pride in the club
Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom before rebuilding, in football as in life things can conspire against us that are unfair.
If there is a 16-18 player clear out, those players won’t have the baggage these ones have, so it will be starting with almost a clean sheet.
Nothing significantly changes in terms of the season as a whole, the wrong person was initially appointed and made things slightly worse, we still have the same board, we still need a major rebuild if we are going to transform how we play.
Bring on next season and give Potter time to build it’s going to take a few seasons because we are trying to go from one extreme to another and that path is never a straight line.
Amen to that. The negativity on here makes me thinks it might be some Millwall fans trolling in an effort to get rid of Potter:):)
No excuses. We should have won. Today, and against Southampton, and Everton, and Villa (twice).
But at least Potter has stopped the spankings which characterised Moyes and Lopetegui.
It’s becoming painfully clear that while Potter talks a good fight, he is clearly not up to the task of taking our club forward. Unfortunately, it looks like we’ll be starting another season with a sub standard manager.
I keep saying it. Potter out, Carrick in. There’s a good reason why Potter was out of work for such a long time and it wasn’t because he needed to settle his head and get back on the horse. Well, it didn’t work, so Sully was right in only wanting him for six months. Potter out, Carrick in. Despite coming from up North, Carrick is a West Ham Boy. Just get him.
I guess we’ve all had more than enough of it, the whole season has been the same. Fullkrug says it as it is and he’s told it’s not helpful. On what planet is telling it exactly as it is not helpful.
Potter and Bowen should resign.
This way the team can go forward.
Currently the team is seriously divided, with Bowen and Kudus doing most of the damage with their sloppy play and arrogance. Just count how many times the 2 of them lost the ball, without any apology … not just today, but throughout the season.
Then count how many times Bowen + Kudus refuse to pass to a player in a better position to score? Many times that person is Fullkrug, and before him Scamacca.
Their is no passion, structure, order, or leadership in this team. Last week Fullkrug said it, and today we saw it.
So yes, Potter + Bowen resign and take Kudus, Mavro, Paqueta, Jwp etc with you. Pathetic lot dont deserve wearing the West Ham shirt.
And let the academy players or the WH ladies in !!!
Fking luck behave…its because we can’t manage a game for the last 5 min ..because half the team arnt working enough..plus Potter making stupid subs….this will get alot worse before this get better ….I’ve know idea who we need anymore..i just know I can’t look at a single person from the club as it just puts me in a bad mood ..especially potters interviews they must be just altered by a couple words each week
I think we need to be more ruthless about WH today and not settling for “we were a bit unlucky” that means being honest that we should have pressed faster and harder for the the first and third Brighton goals, and Kilman should have stayed with Mitoma for their second.
We are just so poor and it’s due to a lack of intensity for 90 mins… I’d be disappointed in a junior team playing with that lack of intensity, let alone full time professionals.
Doesn’t feel like the coaches can get the mental state of the team even close to where it needs to be at this level.
Poor decisions both last week and this to be honest.
Last week he took all of Kudus, Bowen and Fullkrug off, we went deep defensive and it cost us two points.
This week even if Emerson needed to come off surely you don’t directly replace him with Coufal, you move AWB over there and play Coufal right back. This week we lost three points as we were a few minutes from the whistle and 2-1 up.
I don’t think that most of us here would do those things.
Sorry, but Potter doesn’t have a clue.
