West Ham United have confirmed the permanent transfer of defender Thilo Kehrer to AS Monaco, as reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Monaco exercised their purchase option on Kehrer’s loan deal, securing his services for a reported €11 million (£9.4 million). Kehrer had joined the Ligue 1 club on loan in the January transfer window.
The German defender’s departure comes as no surprise. He saw limited playing time under David Moyes in the first half of the season, suggesting the manager did not consider him a key part of his plans.
With Moyes leaving West Ham, a potential return for Kehrer might have seemed possible. However, Monaco’s purchase option meant a permanent transfer was always the most likely outcome, especially considering his regular playing time at the club (14 appearances).
Some West Ham fans might question the decision to let Kehrer go, particularly given the inconsistent performances of other centre backs like Dinos Mavropanos. However, the final call rested with Monaco due to the loan agreement.
While not a significant loss for West Ham, Kehrer’s departure highlights the ongoing need for improvement in central defense. The £9.4 million received from the transfer could be used to invest in a new defender who better fits the manager’s plans.
West Ham fans can expect the club to utilise the funds from Kehrer’s sale to potentially strengthen their central defence in the upcoming transfer window.
He is played out of position for the German national team. Also the German national team is not the team they used to be
Another booboo Gonzo. how can you possibly say that. KEHRER. is not a significant loss for W.H. when he was never given a real prolonged opportunity in his natural position . Do you think that the German national team kept getting wrong! And do you think that MONACO have got it wrong , of course not ! no he was yet another victim of MOYES mismanagement
and you are attempting to paper over the cracks again.
Zouma is terrible he should not be captain
Very quick with outgoing loans/players being sold shame they can’t work with equal diligence when buying.
Unbelievable there’s been mention of keeping Zoom(a).
Replacements for complete back row needed.
I always thought kherer was passionate about the club , I always thought moyes had a knack of demoralising certain players scamacca being a prime example , or playing them out of their comfortable positions , I hope the new manager has the ability to nurture not torture, we need to build a squad not a favourite eleven who get run into the ground or constantly criticized by name we need a manager who manages for the club not self gratification
It amazes me the criticism west ham fans get when moyes has run the squad in to the ground. As you say we have a first 11 and that’s all.
Use your home grown talent first.
Saves money 💰
Ben Johnson is ideally suited as a centre half
I can’t believe we just sold our best defender for 9.5 million I hope our other centre backs follow suit
I can’t believe you think we have a ‘best defender’… They’re all toilet
😅🤣😅🤣👍so true
Don’t know what you’ve been watching Tommy if you think he is our best defender
