West Ham Confirm Saudi Interest in Winger

West Ham have confirmed Saudi interest in Hammers winger Luis Guilhermeā€¦ sort of.

Claret & Hugh reached out to a trusted London Stadium source to verify reports that the Brazilian youngster could be sold to a Saudi Pro League team during this transfer window.

According to our insider, thereā€™s a slim 10% chance the 18-year-old winger could be on the move.

While specific details remain undisclosed, itā€™s believed that West Ham might take a loss on the Ā£20m Palmeiras signing if he departs. The club has also revealed that some players may need to be offloaded to provide new manager Graham Potter with the funds necessary to rebuild a squad ravaged by injuries.

It would be a significant disappointment if Guilherme leaves, especially as he arrived with high expectations but hasnā€™t been given much of an opportunity.

However, with two wingers and two strikers currently unavailable and Guilherme not even featuring for the under-21s, itā€™s hard to see where he fits into the teamā€™s plans.

Claret & Hugh says: Ordinarily, I would not do this; however, my earlier reporting of the breaking story from The Times seems to have generated some anger and confusion regarding my personal opinions. I’d like to clarify that just because I’m reporting on a player being sold does not necessarily mean I advocate for it.

Guilherme deserved a chance to playā€”if not in the first team, then at least with the U21s or on loan to get up to speed. I have said this consistently since September and will include links to my previous articles below.

I completely understand why West Ham fans are frustrated with the failure of the Guilherme transfer. I was as excited as anyone to think we were signing a great young talent from Brazil. Any failure of this transfer (and make no mistake, if he leaves after six months for a loss, it will be a massive failure) is due to the clubā€™s poor forward planning and infrastructure.

That said, I must encourage posters to remain civil towards others in the comments, including fellow posters and writers.

Send him out on loan please. Iā€™m sure keeping this lad will pay dividends in the future. I donā€™t want to see him being sold to Real Madrid in a few years time for a hundred million and we get nothing.

  • bonzosboy says:

honestly, get the lad on a 6 month loan, see what happens. given playing time he may just be one of those who adapts quickly with match experience. if we sell him now and that happens elsewhere we’ll all be screaming at how we gave him away for nothing. and no one will be apologising to Steidten either.

  • ricardo says:

Before Guilherme goes anywhere, we should see him play. He may not be that bad after all. And he is still pretty young (and moves the age average in the right direction).

  • Morty says:

Steidten will be feeling the pressure if the lad is jettisoned, not many of his signings are lasting the course

Gonzo, pretty much agree with most of that and absolutely agree and support your call for posters to treat one another and in particular, writers with respect. It’s good/healthy that we have differing opinions and expectations. Keep up the good work.

This has sullivan written all over it get rid of a young talent to finance a crocked past it c forward one step forward and 2 back

  • HammerDan says:

West Ham.have royally messed up with this kid.

It seems he is not ready for fidst team, else he would have got more minutes by now. Not the kids fault.

But given he is 18 and isn’t ready for the first team, he should be with the U21’s for season, playing games and showing some development. But he’s been left on the 1st team subs bench so has had no chance to develop. Again not the kids fault.

    Total miss-management of the player!!

  • Macephtopheles says:

Was like “Wasn’t this posted already..?” and seems so. Shame you had to change the article because labelling him a flop is pretty fair, unfortunately.

Isn’t Guilherme’s fault and he’s looked decent in the glimpses we’ve had of him but it’s the same with Fullkrug. Guilherme’s had limited game time and Fullkrug has had his injuries but at this point, both transfers are flops.

Would love for him to be given a proper chance but (as is) the Ā£20-25m fee makes him a flop by any definition… even if it isn’t his fault.

  • Frank Reed says:

Iā€™ve only seen the lad play 47 mins of football in a West Ham first team and he never stood out. I would imagine our manager would know all his capabilities so if he gets transferred, surely we have to trust his judgement. He was brought to our club for a reason but it appears both our recent managers donā€™t reckon him

  • Martyn says:

Guilherme Has not had a chance, itā€™s a mistake to let him go. I have seen enough of him to believe he will develop into a very good player but needs to be coached well, seems West Ham canā€™t do that, not good for a premier league club, not being able to develop players.

  • John Ayris says:

When we bought Guilherme nothing that I read led me to expect that as an 18 year old he would get anything more than cameo appearances. What I read was that he was bought as a prospect not as a first team starter.

The entire Lopetegui era was a disaster that needs to be written off, never the right appointment, a truly dreadful decision to appoint him, nothing was done right.

Potter played Guilherme as a sub at Villa and he was on the bench against Fulham – That’s precisely what I expected to see from him. He has not looked bad when he has come on.

  • Frank Reed says:

Gonzo, I understand your thoughts, some of the comments I donā€™t understand. There will always be errors made in signing players, donā€™t know what the success percentage rate is, wont be that high. I could quote handfuls of players weā€™ve signed in the last 30 years who havenā€™t worked. The thing is to realise early if itā€™s not working and get rid and move on, we are always searching for the best for our club.

  • Ryan says:

Sell him and get Duran asap. He is the only striker we need to get. ****ing go into the red and sort it in the summer. We already fukt up once , if he is up for grabs do everything you can west ham to get him. Stop shopping for scraps and progress this club.

    • John Ayris says:

Duran is now North of Ā£60M and possibly North of Ā£70M as I saw a valuation of him at Ā£71M the other day. His ship has sailed. He’s signed a long contract and scored goals for fun since then and has clubs like PSG interested.

The time for Duran was last window when he was about Ā£40M but we wouldn’t pay a bit more than we had already offered.

That wasn’t even the worst decision of last window, the worst decision was Lopetegui. All the time that dreadful decisions like that are made we will never fulfil our potential.

  • Phil Baker says:

Westham are now being forced to dumpster dive for a striker because of all the idiot signings from various transfer windows .

  • Phil Baker says:

At the time of the Guilherme signing I wondered why so much money spent on an unproven kid when so many quality first team players were needed . The first priority had to be a quality striker and that option was f”ked as soon as the money was wasted on the kid who can’t get playing time under Potter as well as the previous idiot .
