West Ham United have set their sights on a surprise target in their quest to bolster their goalkeeping options, with veteran shot-stopper Tim Krul emerging as a candidate, according to journalist Alan Nixon of The Sun.
West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui is looking to address a potential gap in his goalkeeping department after their pursuit of Wes Foderingham hit a snag.
With his contract at Luton Town expiring this summer, Krul presents himself as a potential free transfer solution for the Hammers.
Despite being 36 years old, Krul possesses a wealth of experience, having played for Newcastle United, Norwich City, and accumulating 15 caps for the Netherlands national team. He could offer valuable support as a backup to current first-choice goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.
Lukasz Fabianski’s contract is nearing its expiration, and Krul could be a long-term solution for West Ham as a back up in goal. Also acquiring him on a free transfer would be a cost-effective move for the club.
Lopetegui has previously explored deals for goalkeepers Wes Foderingham and Asmir Begovic, but neither deal came to fruition. There does seem to be something of a trend with the constant links to older goalkeepers rather than looking for younger options.
While Krul will certainly not be a starter, his experience and availability on a free transfer make him a credible option for West Ham’s goalkeeping needs.
However, it remains to be seen if Krul prioritises a move that offers him a starting role elsewhere.
“and Krul could be a long-term solution for West Ham as a back up in goal”…. he’s 36.
Don’t understand why you would go cheap on the most important position on the pitch.
Surely you look for someone better than you have?
Always look to get better…
Are we serious about thinking that Krul is a better goalkeeper than Fabianski? Every day I understand less about how these decisions are made.
I agree why not extend Fabis contract for another season – he done the business for us again last season when needed ⚒️
