West Ham have NO insurance cover if Lucas Paqueta is found guilty of spot fixing. Club insiders fear he could be banned for life if the tribunal goes against him as it is based on balance of probabilities and not beyond all reasonable doubt.
West Ham would lose everything without compensation but his contract would be terminated with immediate effect if the ban was longer than his contract.
It would mean there would be not only be no sell-on money but The Hammers would still owe Lyon the remining balance on Paqueta’s transfer fee without a penny back in compensation.
Exactly what is west ham’s. budget. ? at this stage how can they rely on any. windfall from the sale of PAQUETA. .which may never happen . perhaps the board is underwriting a firm budget for priorities , otherwise isn’t EVERYBODY just clutching. at straws?
Is it possible for a club to insure against spot fixing ? I wouldn’t have thought so. If it came to a punitive penalty then I would expect to see legal action, premiership footballers are wealthy individuals these days, employing a top brief is very much not beyond their finances. The authorities will be aware of that.
Where do West Ham stand in terms of taking Paqueta to court?
That was my thought too. West Ham will want to try and get a good part of what they forked out for him. If he is found guilty, then he deserves getting sued… if it turns out to be possible.
