The race for Girona midfielder Aleix Garcia takes a dramatic turn as West Ham United throws a spanner into Bayer Leverkusen’s works, according to The Guardian‘s Jacob Steinberg.

Garcia’s stellar La Liga season has made him a coveted target for several clubs. West Ham fans are particularly excited about the prospect of him forming a central midfield partnership with Edson Alvarez.

Bayer Leverkusen seemed to be cruising towards securing Garcia’s signature, with reports even suggesting an agreement was in place.

However, West Ham refuses to be left behind. Steinberg reports that the Hammers are actively trying to disrupt Leverkusen’s deal and could soon submit a formal offer for Garcia.

Garcia’s defensive prowess would bolster West Ham’s backline when paired with Alvarez. Additionally, his excellent passing, composure on the ball, and vision would significantly improve their attacking transitions.

West Ham needs to convince Garcia and potentially outbid Leverkusen to secure his signature.

West Ham fans are optimistic that the club will make a strong push for Garcia. Signing him would be a significant statement of intent from new manager Julen Lopetegui and could be a game-changing transfer coup.

a pretty big detail that is missing in english press – we’ve bribed garcia with a 4m euro sign on fee, so 20m deal, 16m euro on the transfer by sign-on

personally i think garcia is already ours, the sign-on fee, alleged higher wages, premier league and a nailed on starting position

leverkusen has champions league (so does girona thanks to him) but the alonso project is dead in a years time and that team will be torn apart, everyone thinking beyond a year can see this so i can’t imagine garcia sees leverkusen as attractive as west ham long term

on top of that he is rivalling xhaka and palacios for a starting position, at west ham he has no rival unless we play paq at #8 – don’t think so, he’s too much of a maverick to play so deep in a system that prioritises posssesion, creativity will be used to break through the final 3rd instead

i think garica is like a 70% chance to sign for us, it’s probably already agreed, a couple of days after our offer suddenly we are hearing the club looking for offers for JWP and then soucek

It’s one thing our t/d and coach wanting Garcia, but our owner has the deepest pockets and the shortest arms.We can wish for any player within reason but history shows in the past he has blocked transfers.Lets hope.my pessimistic attitude is proved wrong, the player is only 20m!.
