West Ham United are reportedly willing to release striker Danny Ings on a free transfer in a bid to offload his substantial wages.

The 32-year-old has struggled to make a significant impact since joining the Hammers from Aston Villa in 2022, and with the arrival of Niclas Fullkrug, his opportunities for first-team football are likely to be limited.

The club’s financial situation has been impacted by the significant investment in new players this summer, and reducing the wage bill has become a priority. Ings’ high salary has made him a target for cost-cutting measures, with the club exploring all options to facilitate his departure.

While Ings has shown glimpses of his ability, his inconsistent form and the club’s need to balance the books have made him surplus to requirements. With the transfer window drawing to a close, West Ham will be hoping to find a solution that benefits both the club and the player.

    Pointless buy

  • John Trout says:

If I was Danny I’d be wanting out. He’s been treated abysmally- but I’d not go unless it was fiscally beneficial as this treaty would make me more determined to get my money. Makes West Ham look like a “gangster mob”.

    • Saul says:

I agree with the sentiment of what you say John, however if Ings was a Moyes purchase (and i have heard rumours that that might not have been the case) than it is Moyes who treated him with contempt. Buying him and then hardly playing him would be classed as Moyes’ decision solely. What the new boss decided to do with his squad is his right and if Ings doesn’t suit his style of play then, as harsh as it is, it wouldn’t make sense at this stage in his career to sit on the bench for a season.

      • Joe says:

Moyes did want ings. There have been several articles about this on the athletic..it’s just another example of poor .an management from the previous manager

  • Ian says:

This all gives the impression that firstly it wasn’t Moyes who bought Ings, as he basically refused to give him game time apart from as a last resort. And now he’s unwanted by the new coach.
I know people say he should leave because he’s on a huge wage. But that’s not his fault. Seems to me he’s kept himself fit and available but is not wanted. So it’s up to the club to find a solution.

Ings is not up to this league and nobody is going to pay his wages.
    Get rid ASAP.
There is no room for sentiment and the poster who thinks he has been treated so poorly should consider the £6.5 M per year we have been paying him

    • Tony says:

6.5m to sit on the bench!
He was never good enough to play 1st team, when he did he ***ked up.
He needs to admit he is not as good as he was and lower his standards and accept a lower salary, but elsewhere.

    • Ian says:

It’s whoever authorised the deal to buy Ings and pay him those wages that needs to look at what’s it’s costing.
The club want him out, and it’s up to them to find a way of doing it not the player.

    • Andy says:

It’s not Ing’s fault we agreed to pay him a stupid amount of money per week. It makes you wonder what these new players are on a week ,I hope it doesn’t bankrupt us. Ings is not guilty signing his contract .

    • John simmonds says:

If he walked out and refused to play they’d fine him and not pay him.
The boot’s on the other foot. They don’t want him. They gave him the contract. He’s fit and ready.. the fact he’s not up to it is irrelevant. Tough titty. Pay him up or suck it up Sully.

  • John Lattimore says:

Ings’ predicament is a problem of the club’s making, not his. If he just sits and takes the money who can blame him.

  • Dutchy says:

I would prefer to keep Ings instead of Antonio. Assume we are going te be more in possesion at opponents half/penalty area. Ings might flurish. Better option than Antonio, specially now we have the German powerhouse. A fox in the box more usefull
