West Ham have made a sensational bid for a striker that would break the club’s transfer record.
Lucas Paquetá currently holds the record as West Ham’s most expensive signing, following his £50m move from Lyon. The deal was structured as £37m up front with add-ons based on appearances and the Hammers’ Europa Conference League triumph in Prague.
But now, West Ham have attempted to smash that figure with an ambitious offer for Porto striker Samuel Omorodion Aghehowa.
Yesterday,ExWHUEmployee reported that West Ham had sent scouts to watch several players in the Benfica v Porto match. One of the players named was Omorodion — and Claret & Hugh can now reveal that an approach has been made for the in-form forward.
Omorodion has had an exceptional debut season following his move from Atlético Madrid, and West Ham’s interest is no surprise.
Unfortunately, that’s where the good news ends. The Hammers are well short of Porto’s asking price, having already rejected bids of €60m for the striker.
C&H understands that Porto want closer to €80m (£68m), and Omorodion is believed to be seeking wages of around £180k per week — numbers West Ham simply cannot match.
New Irons boss Graham Potter and recruitment chief Kyle Macaulay are understood to have instructed the club to try to secure the 20-year-old striker, but the move is now considered out of reach.
It will no doubt be a huge source of frustration for everyone at West Ham. Omorodion was available for under £20m just last summer, and the club were seriously interested — but ultimately opted to sign Niclas Füllkrug instead.
🤣🤣🤣exclusive..then read the last couple paragraphs….🤣.absolutely no fking chance..my god have you not seen sullivans offers for
qaulity players……he’s back on transfers so come on .
Be realistic it will be one awful window with lots of stories who we won’t be getting, and lots of angry knock backs from clubs because of the derisory bids sullivan and the club put in……we have seen this nearly every window..all sullivan and Co do is wait and wait hoping to save a few pennies then alienate clubs to us with insulting bids….Duran was a prime example…wouldn’t pay 5 mil more ..so what on earth makes you think they will pay this ….exclusive NO…dreaming,, YES …..
BEST news would be new owners who know how to run a club …….get sullivan to get some pointers of of forest, villa even Palace..because we are a mess all over ..and it certainly won’t change with hopeful stories and sullivan.back in charge of transfers
Yeah, that list west ham have, of strikers we didn’t buy who then exploded in form the very next season. Goyekeres, Alverez etc. It’s heartbreak turned to numbness. It’s bloody tedious.
These grab headlines are beyond a joke!
This article is a total windup for the punters.
On par with David, Boniface, Gomes which everybody knows is never going to materialize.
Very contradictory in terms of fees and wages.
Similar to figures appertaining to amount of transfers needed first 9, then 12 and latest is 18.
Wilson and Vardy more contradictions, age and injuries.
With so much business required Potter has to focus on doable deals not waste time on speculative rubbish.
If available Delap at approx. £35m seems to be feasible, good age/robust/premier league experience/injury free.
There is also a question of time as whu have terrible reputation for lowballing and haggling (Sul
West Ham either do not have the knowledge to identify PL potential or they do not have the courage to back their choices. This story compares numbers for a 2025 signing with those paid for a player in 2022. West Ham cannot complain that £50M is not where the bar sits today for top talent, when they were instrumental in redefining that level with the sale of Declan Rice. They need to identify their top target and go for it, then reset and go again. Do the money men want to invest in their future or not? Pay up or accept mediocrity, but don’t complain about numbers you helped to define.
Same old Sullivan if true either lowball or put in a big bid he knows will fail… it’s like having Trump as a director., good at making noise and money for himself and terrible at everything else.
We looked at him last year put a decent bid like Porto did and we could have signed him but no as usual out transfer strategy of shooting yourself in the foot by low bidding duran sidetracted is away from something that was doable, now I back to if only , but it’s nothing new is it our catalogue is full of if onlys , trouble is we never learn from it , and sorry to say the man with the purse strings and final say is Sullivan and things won’t get any better while he’s head of the table
Prepare for many more stories just like this one, “we really like this player and we have made a bid (which is so low it gets laughed at) but we just can’t make the numbers work. We’ll now move onto the next target”. It’s how every single window works under sullis leadership, low bids we know will be rejected (Jhon Duran) or bids for players we know will never come only to end up with a player from a trusted agent who is nowhere near the quality we need.
Spot on, all for show no substance.
We put in a massive offer but his wage demands were too big, blah blah blah.
Yes a player we could of got last summer for £15million but as ever stuttered over then looked at other choices then went back and his price soared to £35million after chelski had taken a look Sully did not want to pay that and the saga with the villa man ensued until Fullkrug came through the door.
This player whilst worth a punt at £15million is not worth the risk of silly money and again smacks of Sullivan trying to big up his rep and make noises etc and we all know this is smoke and mirrors for Callum Wilson to be done….if this was a serious matter you would not shout about it and leak it to all and sundry….this is Typical West Ham typical Sullivan.
