West Ham have rejected an offer for a fringe midfielder, Claret & Hugh has learnt this afternoon.
According to our top transfer source—someone who has been involved in multiple Premier League deals—the Hammers received a bid of just over £2 million for Andy Irving.
The offer was immediately turned down, with West Ham deeming the bid too low for the 25-year-old Scottish international. While the identity of the bidding club wasn’t disclosed, it’s believed Irving will be sold if a more acceptable offer is received.
The former Hearts midfielder was signed from Austria Klagenfurt for £1.6 million and has quickly developed something of a cult following among Hammers fans.
However, with nine midfielders currently on the books—and another expected through the door soon—Graham Potter is fully aware that he must trim his squad.
Academy graduate Freddie Potts has impressed in pre-season and has been earmarked for a first-team squad role, meaning Irving is likely to get very little game time in the upcoming campaign.
As a result, West Ham have made it known to potential suitors that Irving is available—provided the price is right.
Club sources have declined to comment on the bid informing C&H: “We expect some players to leave and some to arrive”.

I’d rather see Guido and Ward-Prowse leave over Irving
Hmm. One of my most favourite insider quotes of recent times has to be the highly insightful “We expect some players to leave and some to arrive”.
Andy Irving is a grower. He will have a role in our team

He is capable at this level, very useful player who we should hold on to.
Cult following or not, if he’s not going to play it makes sense to move him on. He would do well in the Championship or Scottish League, which is more his level. That said, £2m is way too low. Hopefully he’ll get a decent move to progress his career rather than sitting on the bench.
he’d likely do very well in the championship, outside chance he dominates it and ends up a +15m player
i think we should loan him out for that reason, if jwp leaves in a years time then andy can step up and take his role in the squad
Why sell someone who is useful when other midfield players should be pushed out the door!
Surely one to hold on to. Dead wood first not the promising ones
