West Ham will consider offering Ollie Scarles a new deal early next season if he continues the remarkable progress he has shown under Graham Potter.

The Hammers academy youngster has been something of a revelation since the new manager arrived at the London Stadium in January. He is now beginning to make regular first-team contributions and has started West Ham’s last two Premier League games against Arsenal and Leicester City.

The fact that both matches resulted in clean sheets has done the 19-year-old no harm at all, and his performance against Arsenal, in particular, was exceptional.

It now looks as if Scarles is set to save the Hammers a fortune, as he appears to be in the process of taking over first-team duties from established left-back Emerson.

As a result, the club will be looking to extend Scarles’ contract, as has been revealed to Claret & Hugh today. A top club source said: “It’s early days, but Ollie is really grounded. We expect him to be a regular in the WHU team for many years as he continues to progress.”

Scarles is already on a long-term contract; however, the top West Ham insider elaborated by saying: “We’ll look at a new contract before Christmas.”

Great news for Scarles and a triumph for the academy, who are said to be buzzing following the wing-back’s promotion to the first team
