West Ham is closing in on an £18m deal for Leicester City keeper Mads Hermansen, with a club insider confirming to Claret and Hugh they hope to conclude a deal worth under £20m for the player.  The 25-year-old Dane is now expected to travel to London tomorrow for a medical.

West Ham will not be buying John Victor having agreed a deal for Mads Hermansen

The deal, if concluded, will mark the end of the pursuit of Brazilian goalkeeper John Victor, with a club source confirming they are only in the market for one goalkeeper.

Earlier this week, we confirmed West Ham had multiple targets in the goalkeeper position, and the club had several options available to them, including Suzuki.

Perhaps the news that a John Victor deal could soon be concluded in some way forced the Leicester City deal over the line.

At £18m it will be West Ham’s record goalkeeping signing, surpassing Areloa from PSG at £8m and Fabianski from Swansea at £7m

The way we have handled this deliberately walking a player and other club up the Garden path in order to get leverage over another club is disgraceful and can’t help but think it’s why we miss out on transfers, it’s the sort of move would expect from an estate agent trading off buyers and acting in bad faith.

This seems to be common practice for Sullivan and a bad look for our club.

Wish Victor well and that he gets his move to another club in Europe.

  • Jellied Eel says:

As if players’ agents and players themselves don’t mess clubs around. It’s a bear pit. Even when Sullivan does something right he does something wrong to many people. He clearly can’t win. Just as well he can ignore everyone.

I don’t even know how we could sign John Victor?

He’s 29, only been a starter for his newest club beginning last year and he’s obviously Brazilian. The closest he’s ever got to the national side is if he’d bought a ticket so how would we be able to get a work permit for him? Wouldn’t meet any of the criteria.

Prior to Brexit then if he had a Portuguese passport we could’ve got round it that way but now even they would need a work permit

    Shameful conduct…

  • Ted Fenton says:

I would expect us to sign Victor next week after we have sold Areola for £6m.

  • Essexiron67 says:

I agree good signing but I don’t like the way clubs do business now a days but if that’s what we’ve got to do to compete

  • Ray Martin says:

Well let’s hope we never want a player from Botafogo. Another club who will never want to deal with us again. I’m happy we’re getting Hermansen and think he is ideal for Potter’s style of play. The way we do business though is horrifying. Poor Viktor was sitting at the airport waiting to get the nod to travel to London.

  • M says:

That’s not a good thing to do to Victor, his club or his manager.
    Bad optics

  • Mike W says:

Very happy with Hermansen if this does work out. Looks like we may have treated Victor and Botafogo shabbily though, doesn’t reflect well on our club.

  • D says:

At 18 million we have a budget David Raya. Potters very own sweeper keeper. Perfectly suited for the style Potter wants to play. Great news.

  • kcockayne says:

Feel sorry for Victor, if this is true. The club seems to have messed him about a bit – much like they mess us about. But, I suppose that is the way transfers are conducted nowadays.

    • D says:

Well Victors camp are spinning it that he decided against signing for West Ham as he wanted to stay and fight for titles.

    • Julian Woodhouse says:

Only if you have zero class and a scatter gun approach.
